Summer 2023 will certainly go down in the books as memorable. Alongside ELC’s Education team, our team of nine interns made a ton of memories! We had some challenges with excessive heat warnings, intense humidity, and biting insects, but the laughter, learning, and memories made up for it.
A total of nine interns spent Summer 2023 at ELC; seven high school interns funded through the generous support of the United Way of Indian River County, one college student funded through Quail Valley Charities, and one student earning college credits gained valuable career skills and experience working alongside ELC’s staff.
Throughout the summer, the interns not only expanded their knowledge of the Indian River Lagoon ecosystem but also deepened their connection to this beautiful and diverse estuary. By leading camp activities, working in the aquarium, interacting with guests, and creating educational materials, these young adults discovered the important role environmental education plays in conservation and community happiness. We’re so proud of these young adults and thrilled to know regardless of career path, they’ll continue to be lifelong environmental stewards.
