Ray-Pec Parent Community,
At a special meeting held earlier tonight (Tuesday), the Ray-Pec Board of Education voted 4-2 to continue with the current hybrid schedule (A/B day) for middle and high school students through the end of the school year.
Tonight’s decision followed several weeks of information gathering. Board members received a report that included:
- An assessment of the current middle school and high school hybrid model.
- The impact and scheduling of COVID-19 vaccinations for staff.
- Requirements needed to change the learning model at the secondary level.
- Survey information from parents, students, and staff.
- Written comments submitted with the survey.
- Information on learning models in use by other school districts
Tonight’s decision was not an easy one for the Board. It is important to remember that there is no right or wrong answer in determining many of the decisions that need to be made during a pandemic. Ultimately the majority of the Board felt that consistency of the current approach, class size concerns if we were to have more in-person days, lack of physical distancing among students, and potential instructional disruption were factors in their decision.
I want to thank everyone who provided input on this issue. In total, over 4,000 parents, staff, and students participated in the survey and submitted written comments to let their preferences be known.
As I have said before, this is a year unlike any other. Our guiding principles for dealing with our current situation remain strong. Plan and adjust. Patience and grace. These characteristics are the hallmark of any great organization as it makes its way through difficult and challenging times.
