Happy Juneteenth!

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will be holding it’s 2nd New England Winter Gas-Electric Forum (Docket No. AD22-9-000) tomorrow on June 20th from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time to discuss possible solutions to the electricity and natural gas challenges facing the New England Region.

As stated on FERC’s event page:
“The purpose of the forum is to continue discussion from the September 8, 2022, forum about the electricity and natural gas challenges facing the New England region.  This forum will discuss studies on extreme weather risks, infrastructure on the electric and gas systems in New England, and infrastructure and market design reforms to aid with the electric and gas system challenges faced historically during New England winters.  The goal of this forum is to identify solutions to address the electric and gas system challenges and discuss timing of their potential implementation.”

The forum will be open to the public and be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton
Portland, 363 Maine Mall Rd, Portland, ME. Registration is open through today - June 19, though registration is currently showing the event as booked. There is a stand-by list, if you’re still hoping to attend. Attendance is free.

Those who are unable to attend in person may watch the free webcast on the FERC page, or directly on YouTube

A recording of the webcast will be made available after the forum. There will also likely be a comment period posted

You’d better believe the fossil fuel industry is chiming in on the Docket AD22-9 already. The docket’s pre-forum comments reads like a who’s who of the status quo - Kinder Morgan, Inc., Enbridge Gas Pipelines, National Grid USA, Eversource Energy, Excelerate New England Lateral, LLC, North American Electric Reliability Corporation, New England Power Generators Association, etc.

The docket is open to comments all the time (no deadlines), so make sure your voice is heard alongside these industry players. Your comments can be as simple as a plea to do the right thing in the face of the Climate Emergency and steer New England rapidly away from fossil fuel use, or as complex as you’d like, addressing key points made during the forum.
We have a comment guide with some key talking points on the issues and instructions on how to file a comment. Please feel free to use these, but please don’t copy and paste large portions of text. If FERC recognizes a central source for comments, they will combine verbatim copies into one comment.
Remember, it's Docket No. AD22-9-000

Environmental groups will be live posting on social media during the Forum as well from both the forum in Maine, and from Everett, MA - a key fossil fuel location at the center of the gas reliability debate.

On June 20, #Everett residents & decision-makers will rally to demand a say in the future of the Everett Marine Terminal. We encourage all Everett residents to join! This event is organized by the Fix the Grid Campaign & will feature Everett leaders & #climate activists.
