WAVE 3 News: Beshear Administration turns “BLIND EYE” to riot, violence at Juvenile Detention Center

FRANKFORT, Ky. (September 19, 2022) – Andy Beshear’s Justice Cabinet is under scrutiny for its handling of reported violence at the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center.

According to a report from WAVE 3 News, conditions at the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center have deteriorated so badly that the facility’s former officials are speaking out and pointing the finger right at the Beshear Administration. Just as bad, Justice Cabinet Secretary Kerry Harvey is silent and his cabinet is refusing to make officials available for interviews about the matter.

“While national Democrats try to redefine the word ‘recession,’ Andy Beshear is trying to redefine ‘riot,’” Republican Party of Kentucky Communications Director Sean Southard said. “Today’s report by WAVE 3 News suggests a cover-up of violence at the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center. Andy Beshear and Justice Secretary Kerry Harvey should stop stonewalling and immediately answer for the anarchy at the Juvenile Justice Center.”

The Justice and Public Safety Cabinet has been plagued with problems since the moment Andy Beshear took office. Numerous news reports in 2021 revealed that former state juvenile justice commissioner LaShana Harris was under investigation and eventually resigned after the Beshear Administration tried to fire her for creating a "toxic environment."

“Andy Beshear’s government is in disarray,” Southard said. “Last week, we learned the Labor Cabinet hasn’t made any progress towards fixing our unemployment system, and that the Cabinet for Health and Family Services isn’t adequately supporting our child welfare centers. It’s clear he and the people he’s hired to run things aren’t up to the task of governing.”
