According to the latest C.A.R. consumer survey, over half of all renters in California think you need at least 20 percent down to purchase a home.

The reality is there are programs available that enable a purchase with a much lower down payment. Our STEPS program provides you with the necessary info on credit scores, financial planning, leveraging down payment resources and options for low- to moderate-income earners to educate your buyers. And we're bringing it to you virtually on April 7, for free!

Message from C.A.R.

During Women’s History Month, the vibe in our community is all about women and men shining a light on, supporting and sharing stories of the women in our lives who have made a positive impact. The WomanUP!® movement began in late 2016 when C.A.R. discovered that of its top 100 revenue-producing firms, only 14 were run by women. WomanUP!®, an initiative of the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, exists to support the women's journeys to the very TOP of their careers. Our three-part mission is to identify, develop and connect women in this industry. We identify the tools and strategies you need to make bold moves in real estate. We provide you with resources and events to develop your skills as a leader. We create opportunities to connect with other amazing leaders in the national brokerage community.
According to C.A.R. research, in 2021, 60 percent of REALTORS® are women, yet men dominate the senior leadership positions at most major residential real estate companies.

All evidence points to women continuing to be underrepresented in leadership positions in business overall. This month (and all year long) we are shining a light on women who have blazed the trail and created their own paths in owning and leading successful brokerages. What are their core values, strategies, tactics and best practices? What lessons have they learned along the way? What obstacles have they encountered and how did they overcome them? What advice do they have for other women who are or who would like to be in a brokerage leadership position?

Here is one woman’s story of building her business from the ground UP…
Broker/Owner of Excellence Realty Evelyn Arnold has been in the business for 50 years. She started as a broker in Compton for 22 years and then moved to Lynwood, where she has been for the last 28 years. When asked about obstacles she encountered along the way, Evelyn shared…

“At the beginning of my career in 1965, there was blatant discrimination. I was working as a cosmetologist at the time. My husband and I purchased investment property and worked with a white broker.

When I got my license, I went to that broker to see if she would hire me. She didn’t take me on because she thought I might hurt the production of her company. People of color were not accepted. The only thing that I recall is that I didn’t accept it as an obstacle. I didn’t think about it. It happened, but I didn’t let it discourage me. Later, I opened my own office."
