Curbside pickup available April 27 th
Hello, distant library friends -

It feels like forever since I've seen you! Like everyone, I'm anxiously awaiting the day when we can all get together again.

Until then, I do have some good news for you. Wisconsin's extended "safer at home" order made some changes to the restrictions on libraries, and we will be able to provide curbside pickups beginning Monday, April 27! Read on for more details on how it will work, and about the other things we are doing to help you stay connected with your library family.

I hope you and yours are safe and well. Take care and stay safe at home!

Curbside pickup service

The Mercer Library will be offering curbside pickup service beginning Monday, April 27. This service will be available Monday-Friday 10am to 4pm or by appointment.

How does it work?
  1. Let us know what you need by calling 715-476-2366, emailing director@mercerpubliclibrary.org or requesting items in our online catalog. We'll schedule a pickup time for you.
  2. Drive up to the library and give us a call to let us know you're here. Stay in your car!
  3. We'll bring your materials out to our curbside service table. Wait until we've moved away to get out of your car and grab your things.

What can you get?
  • Anything that's physically in our library including books for all ages, DVDs, books on CD, board games, and puzzles.
  • Seeds from our seed library. Check out our website for a list of the seeds we have available.

What's NOT available?
  • Our delivery service is shut down, so we cannot request items from other libraries.

What's the catch?
Don't forget to VOTE on May 12!

Voters in Wisconsin's Congressional District 7 will be heading to the polls for a special election on Tuesday, May 12, to determine a new representative to fill the seat vacated by Sean Duffy's resignation last year. Tom Tiffany (R) and Tricia Zunker (D) are the two candidates on the ballot. The Wisconsin Election Commission is urging voters who are concerned about COVID-19 exposure to vote absentee if possible.

You can request an absentee ballot no later than May 7 at 5:00 p.m. More information about the May 12 election is on MyVote Wisconsin or from our town clerk at www.townofmercer.com .

Grown-up Story Hour: social distance edition

Since we can't get together for our monthly "Grown-Up Story Hour" in person, we're going to try a digital version! Join us online on Thursday, April 30 at 6:00 p.m . for stories, poems, and essays in these strange times. Visit our website for a link to the online meeting via GoToMeeting .
Online book clubs

This month our book clubs are reading Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng, and Death Stalks Door County by Patricia Skalka. You can access both titles on our digital collection , although you might have to place a hold.

As we did last month, we've scheduled online meetings for both of our book clubs at their usual times using "GoToMeeting." Check out the events page on our website for links to the meetings. All are welcome to join us!

You can also check out our new online group at Goodreads for a place to chat about our current book club titles or anything else you're reading.
Respond to the Census

Not to be a nag, Mercer, but our town only has a 16.5% response rate to the census so far, compared to 59.4% for the state of Wisconsin and 52.4% nationally. That's NOT enough!

Responding to the census is not just required by law -- it's also vitally important to help Mercer and Iron County get the resources we need to serve our residents. The data collected by the census is used to determine our representation in state and federal government AND is used to distribute billions of dollars of federal funds to local communities. Do your part and respond to the census today, if you haven't already.

Learn how to respond on the United States Census 2020 website .
