Construction Update

The data center on the Fairfield campus will undergo a planned shutdown due to emergency electrical maintenance being performed by a construction crew that requires both the power and our generator to go offline.  To ensure a smooth and uninterrupted recovery of IT services after the electrical work, the data center will be temporarily offline on September 2, 2023 from 3:00am to 11:00pm and intermittently offline Sunday, September 3, 2023.

During this period, all online services and systems hosted in the data center will be unavailable. This includes access to My Solano, Banner, Canvas, and portions of the SCC website. Additionally, all on campus IT services including network/internet connectivity, phones, and security cameras will be offline.

Although IT services will unavailable, it is expected that only Building 100 will be without power on the Fairfield campus. All other buildings will remain with power.

This planned shutdown is necessary to allow a construction crew to repair damaged electrical lines. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we accommodate the needed electrical repair.

Soccer Alumni Face-Off

On a blistery Saturday night, 40 Solano Falcons women's soccer alumni from 2004 to 2022 faced off against the current varsity team. The varsity team under the guidance of Jeff Cardinal, the only head coach in Solano College women’s soccer history, was ready to challenge the alumni. On the other side, the alumni were led by their former long- time assistant coach Todd. The game was not only competitive but also served as an inspiring opportunity for the current varsity team members to connect with the alumni. As they shared the field, the players exchanged stories and experiences, gaining valuable insights into the diverse career paths that the alumni had pursued after their time at Solano College.

Our Favorite Oak Tree

The oak tree used in the SCC logo located across from Bldg. 600 lost a large branch recently. We are waiting to hear from the arborist about the tree’s condition and next steps.

Athletics Hosts Welcome Back Orientation

On Friday August 25, Solano College Athletics conducted its’ "Welcome Back Student-Athlete Orientation". A great turnout of over 100 enthusiastic student athletes attended the event, along with coaches and staff members.

The orientation, which previews the upcoming sports season, focused on nurturing holistic development among student-athletes through the integration of the four pillars of athletic success: Academic Excellence, Community Impact, Good citizenship and Athletic excellence. The event emphasized the vital role student-athletes play in influencing their communities positively, championing good citizenship, respect to others, volunteerism, inclusion, equality and exhibiting exceptional leadership qualities.

After touring the Library and ASTC, the highlight of the event was a thought-provoking presentation by Brian Bedford, a renowned expert in the field of Diversity Equity and Inclusion. Bedford's insightful presentation, titled "What Sports Teach Us about Racism," delved into the powerful ways in which sports can serve as a catalyst for change and understanding in addressing racial disparities. His presentation underscored the critical role athletes and sports play in combating racism and promoting inclusivity.

Solano College Athletics takes great pride in fostering an environment that not only develops athletic achievement but also shapes responsible, empathetic citizens. The orientation's success reaffirms the college's commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who excel both on and off the field.

Meet Skelly | Use Our Digital Library

The library is back in action and full of students, enjoying this beautiful shared space! Our study rooms and textbooks are (as always) hot ticket items, and we have had multiple tours and class visits already.

Please encourage your students to access our many resources via the "SCC Digital Library" link in any of your canvas shells (it's embedded in the navigation pane) or on our website: https://libguides.solano.edu/home . We have a continually updated e-book and digital magazine collection, a new audiobook collection, we curate heritage-month-themed collections of resources, and we offer librarian chat services directly through our Digital Library via Canvas as well.

Don't forget that the librarians can create a specialty library resources/research guide, tailored to your area or even a specific class, which can embed in your Canvas shells or be shared digitally with students. Librarians are also available for library tours and workshops with your class. And if you have any materials requests (digital or print), please let one of us know!

And please follow us on Instagram @scclibraries - our library mascot, Skelly, is always up to something fun there!
