Social Justice Grantmaking Data Analyses
Your Community Foundation conducted a three year (2018, 19 and 20) analysis of grants made in Tompkins and contiguous counties.

71% of dollars in 900 grants totaling 
$3.7 million of $5.2 million went to 173 organizations employing in a social justice strategy

We defined social justice strategies as including at least one of the following impact goals:
  • RACIAL JUSTICE Grants that support the systematic fair treatment of people who have been marginalized based on their race/ethnicity, resulting in equitable opportunities and outcomes. Grants uniquely in service to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.
  • RURAL SERVICES Grants that support access to services for those living outside of the City of Ithaca, but within Tompkins County or surrounding rural regional counties.
  • HUMAN RIGHTS Grants that support equal access toward fundamental rights for individuals (e.g. housing, employment, safety, clean air, etc.).

    Grants that support community organizing as an activity that aims to influence decisions within governmental, economic, and social institutions in support of greater equity for individuals/groups (e.g. formerly incarcerated, those at risk of incarceration, those experiencing domestic violence, etc. ).

    Grants that aim to protect our planet.

    Grants supporting grassroots organizations.
  • RESOURCE EQUITY Grants that give access to individuals/families in Tompkins County with low to moderate Incomes to programs, resources and opportunities
9% of dollars in 115 grants totaling $471,000 went to 38 organizations employing in a racial justice strategy

$6.3 million (25%) of $25.2 million of Community Foundation assets are specifically designated to using social justice strategies

Welcoming Six New Board Members in 2021
Meet Aisha Jasper 

 
A native of Endicott, NY, Aisha relocated back to The Southern Tier after living abroad for six years in Australia and Israel. She holds her Masters of Business Administration and Non-Profit Management from the University of South Australia.

Aisha currently enjoys a career in philanthropy as a member of the Community Development team at Visions Federal Credit Union. Most recently as Co-chair of the Emerging Leaders Society, she assisted in the formation of the 'Let's Get Real' Series: a candid discussion amongst young professionals on topics surrounding race, racism, and social justice. In that same vein, she also currently serves as the Co-chair to the Community Foundation of South Central NY's Racial & Social Justice Fund, the first of its kind at the foundation. Aisha also serves as a Board member for the Conrad & Virginia Klee Foundation & Volunteers Improving Neighborhood Environments (VINES).

Prior to joining the Board, Aisha proudly served on the Community Foundation's Philanthropic Services Committee. She is extremely honored and excited to be a part of the Board of Directors. Aisha will serve as board liaison to our Women's Fund advisory committee.
