Restaurants and retail establishments can go back to a 75% occupancy this week from 50% that was in place last week. Elective surgeries can once again resume at area hospitals as well. This is due to a section in Governor Abbott's statewide COVID-19 Order specifying that areas with hospitalizations of more than 15% of COVID-19 patients occupying hospital space must enact further restrictions. The number in our area fell below that 15% threshold this past weekend.

While vaccinations continue for groups 1A and 1B, doses of the vaccine remain limited statewide. Please continue to speak with your health care provider and sign up for waitlists that are available in the area if you qualify. A special City Council meeting was held this past Monday evening through video conference. Here were some of the highlights:

MAY ELECTION CALLED: City Council voted to adopt an ordinance ordering a general election on May 1, 2021 to elect a mayor and three city councilmembers, along with ordering a special election on that same date to consider reauthorization of a road maintenance sales tax. PARKS MASTER PLAN ADOPTED: City Council unanimously voted in favor of adopting the City of Lakeway Parks & Open Space Master Plan. The last plan was adopted in 2008, and since then Lakeway's population has grown by more than 46%. As a result, the recreational needs have also increased and become more diverse, requiring an updated five to ten-year plan. ROUGH HOLLOW DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT: City Council unanimously voted to adopt the Rough Hollow Development Agreement Restatement. The agreement has been amended 8 times over the years since it was initially adopted in 1997. The city's focus in this amended and restated development agreement has been to implement water quality standards, impose some tree protection measures, and finalize the dedication of parkland, greenspace, and trails in the area. The Victim Services Unit of the Lakeway Police Department is seeking to fill six volunteer positions. The goals of the unit are to provide crisis stabilization and support services to Lakeway and Bee Cave victims, witnesses, survivors, and co-victims experiencing crime or trauma, in order to speed their recovery and aid them through the criminal justice process. The Victim Services Unit can assist victims directly as well as coordinate with other agencies in providing support, information, and resources that can effectively meet victims’ needs. These free services provide crime victims with a continuum of support from the initial crisis period through the investigative and judicial processes.
