Travis County has an updated Order taking effect tomorrow, extending the previous county Order and mirroring the Governor's Order mandating face coverings and prohibiting groups of no more than 10 individuals. There are certain limited exceptions for both. Violations of the gathering portion of the County Order may be punishable by a fine up to $1,000. Violation of the Order regarding face coverings could be punishable by a fine not to exceed $250. Click here to review the latest County Order.

The Travis County area saw the highest number of reported cases in one day this past Wednesday (753). This week, Austin Public Health indicated that the Travis County area is now in a territory where Stage 5 could be triggered due to a further increase in hospitalizations this past week. There are currently 440 individuals hospitalized in our five-county Central Texas region, with a 1,500 hospital bed capacity for COVID-19 patients. Stage 5 (the highest stage for potential restrictions) can be triggered between 70 to 123 average hospital admissions during a seven-day rolling average. On Wednesday, average hospital admissions in a five-county area (including Travis County) peaked at 75.1, above the 70 mark threshold. On Thursday, that average did drop for the first time this week to 71.6.

There have now been a total of 13,864 cases in Travis County. That number is up by 3,169 compared to this same time last week, 3,598 the week before that, and 2,106 the week before that one. At Monday's Special City Council meeting, Lakeway Police Chief Todd Radford gave a presentation giving a full overview of the Lakeway Police Department. The information included the full makeup of the police department staff, a breakdown of traffic violations and incidents over the past several years, and details about training the officers go through. The Lakeway Police Department has been a Recognized Agency by the Texas Police Chief's Association since 2010 (2010, 2014 & 2018). There are roughly 2,500 eligible Texas agencies, 170 of which are recognized. Of those, only 47 have been recognized three times. Click here to view the full presentation.

Today is the final day for businesses in the Lake Travis area to fill out the pre-application eligibility questionnaire for the potential $40,000 in grant money related to losses suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic. The questionnaire is the first step in determining whether you may qualify for this grant that could help with payroll expenses, rent and utility payments, among other eligible expenses.
