CDC Publishes 2021 Immunization Schedules

Updates to this year's schedules are reviewed in the following articles, published in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) on February 12, 2021:
Printable versions of the 2021 immunization schedules are available on the CDC website in several formats, including portrait, landscape and pocked-sized versions. Parent-friendly schedules also are available in English and Spanish.

The 2021 CDC Vaccine Schedules App for Healthcare Providers will be available after February 19, 2021.

Once again, the Immunization Action Coalition will be selling laminated versions of the 2021 immunization schedules. The schedules are now available for pre-order. Click here for more information, including pricing.

Learning Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:
  • Describe updates to the 2021 Childhood and Adolescent Immunization Schedule (birth through 18 years).
  • Describe updates to the 2021 Adult Immunization Schedule (19 years and older).
  • Review spacing of COVID-19 vaccine and other routine vaccines. 
  • Review strategies for improving immunization during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Locate relevant immunization schedule resources.

The Bureau of Infectious Disease and Laboratory Sciences, Massachusetts Department of Public Health is accredited by the Massachusetts Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Bureau of Infectious Disease and Laboratory Sciences, Massachusetts Department of Public Health, designates this Live web-based activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Creditâ„¢. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This program has been offered by the Bureau of Infectious Disease and Laboratory Sciences, Massachusetts Department of Public Health. A maximum of 1.0 contact hours for these programs will be provided in accordance with the regulations governing continuing education requirements for the following Boards of Registration: 

Board of Registration in Nursing (CMR 244 5.00), Board of Registration of Social Workers (258CMR 31.00et seq), Board of Mental Health Professions (262CMR 7.00), Board of Certification of Health Officers (241CMR 4.03), Board of Registration of Sanitarians (255CMR 5.02).

Pharmacists may receive up to 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Creditâ„¢ in accordance with 247CMR 4.00.

It is not too late to get a flu vaccine! Flu vaccination is always the best way to prevent flu and its potentially serious complications.

On March 25, Boston University School of Medicine will present, "Vaccine-Based Prevention of Meningococcal B Disease: Tools for Interpreting and Implementing Recommendations." The webinar goal is to improve comprehension and initiate practice changes so as to improve immunization rates for all patients who are currently scheduled for the MenB vaccination. Continuing medical education credit will be designated for this live activity.
