Apply For A Tinker Foundation Field Research Grant!

The Center for Latin American Studies is accepting applications from graduate and professional students for Tinker Foundation Field Research Grants. These grants provide students with funds for travel to and within Latin America to conduct pre-dissertation research. Due to the global pandemic, CLAS will be holding a hybrid competition for both non-travel research and any viable travel in calendar year 2021. Apply by March 15, 2021.

Spanish and Portuguese K-12 Pronunciation Workshops

The Center for Latin American Studies is excited to host two virtual workshops for both Spanish and Portuguese K-12 educators on Friday, March 19! Teachers who participate will receive 2 contact hours or .2 CEUs. The deadline to submit an application for registration is Friday, March 12. Space is limited, so apply now!

• The Spanish K-12 Pronunciation Workshop will be led by Paloma Pinillos Chávez, PhD candidate in Hispanic Linguistics, Department of Spanish and Portuguese, The Ohio State University.
• The Portuguese K-12 Pronunciation Workshop will be led by André Zampaulo, Professor of Spanish and Portuguese Linguistics at California State University, Fullerton.

Spring BookBox 3 Spots Are Open!

The Center for Latin American Studies is holding a Virtual Spring BookBox Series for K-12 educators. There are still spots available for the third BookBox! This installment will focus on indigenous populations in Latin America in children’s literature and will start on Thursday, March 18, 2021. Each Thursday, from 5-6:30/7pm, we will discuss one of the selected books (five in total) and ways Latin American-centered children's books can be used in the classroom. This program runs 8 weeks long and teachers can earn 13 contact hours/1.3 CEUS for their participation, as well as a possible $100 for a completed lesson plan (with corrections, should that be needed).

International Research vSymposium

The Office of International Affairs at The Ohio State University and Tampere University, Finland are coming together to host an International Research vSymposium on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, 9-11 a.m. EST. The goal of the symposium is to highlight a few of our longstanding cooperative projects and share new collaborations that have been identified in Nursing, Public Health, Public Law, Music, Management and Business as well as in research areas such as Photonics, Global Water, Food Security, Global Health and Social Welfare.

Job Opening: Internal Evaluator for Grants at FIU

The Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center at Florida International University is accepting applications for an Internal Evaluator for Grants (Title VI). Duties include serving as internal evaluator of LACC programs and deliverables in support of the Center's Title VI grant and assisting with all evaluation-related planning and reporting. Applications are due February 26, 2021.
