"Exploring the 5 Elements with Yoga and Ayurveda"
Saturday Sept. 9 at 8 am
|
|
The five gross elements (“panch maha bhuta” in Sanskrit) are the building blocks of all creation. They are the core of the Ayurvedic approach; this ancient philosophy views the cosmos, and therefore us as living beings, as a constant interplay of the five elements (air, ether, water, fire, earth). Therefore, in order to understand our own true Nature, it is essential to understand how the dynamic qualities of the elements can either promote harmony and health, or imbalance and dis-ease.
Our mind and body, and therefore our health, are rooted in the five elements; it is why we feel our best when we are aligned with nature in every way. We nourish ourselves with foods from the Earth; Water makes up more than 70% of our total body mass. Fire provides the body with warmth and radiant energy; Air flows freely, giving movement to biological functions and feeding each cell with oxygen. Space is ever-present in the background, providing the other components with a chance to interact this way.
This class is an exploration of the five great elements as a way to help us understand our own Nature, and how they can help us achieve, true, long-lasting health and wellbeing.
Class offered by Ileana Gonzalez, Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner and 500hr YT.
90 minute class- $30/person.

Emergency preparedness: Remember to add essential oils to your Go Bag!
As we move into later summer and hurricane season on the East Coast, we all start thinking about being prepared to the worst. Whether you're an avid traveler, boater, RV’er, camper, or simply want to be ready for unexpected situations, having a go bag with essential oils can be extremely beneficial to your body, mind, and spirit. These natural healers not only provide numerous health benefits but can also help boost your mood, aid in wound care, create a calming environment, and can help sore or fatigued muscles when needed. Here are a few essential oils that I include in my go bag:
1️. Lavender Lavandula officinalis or Lavandula angustifolia: Known for its proven capabilities to aid in the healing of burns and minor wounds, it is a must have in your go bag. It also has soothing properties; lavender oil can help promote relaxation and relieve stress. It's perfect for creating a peaceful atmosphere during uncertain times or when you need a moment of calm.
2️. Peppermint Mentha ×piperita: A versatile oil that can provides relief from headaches, motion sickness, and muscle soreness. Peppermint oil's invigorating scent is also fantastic for boosting energy and staying alert during long journeys. Peppermint oil also can help relieve an upset stomach or digestive discomfort.
3️. Tea Tree Melaleuca alternifolia: A powerful antiseptic and antimicrobial oil, tea tree is a must-have for any first aid kit. It can help cleanse and disinfect wounds, minor cuts, and insect bites, ensuring you're well-prepared for any mishaps. It is excellent at treating and deterring head lice.
4️. Eucalyptus Eucalyptus globulus: This refreshing oil is excellent for respiratory support, making it ideal for those unexpected congestion or allergy-related issues. It can also act as a natural insect repellent and can be used as a mild analgesic.
5️. Ginger Zingiber officinale: Ginger is a powerhouse and can help with sore muscles, aches, and pains, relieve digestive discomfort, nausea, and vomiting. It also can help with gallstones and swollen glands. Overall, it is an excellent addition to your go bag.
Essential oils should always be used safely and in appropriate dilutions (1-2 drops into 10 ml of carrier oil). Having a small container of carrier oil (4 oz/60 ml) such as jojoba oil to dilute the essential oils can also serve as a skin and hair moisturizer if it becomes dry. Jojoba oil has a longer shelf life and will not go rancid as quickly as other carrier oils.
Including these essential oils in your go bag can provide comfort, support, and help you maintain a sense of well-being during any challenging times. Let's stay prepared together! 🌟

There are a few key things that every successful and sustainable weight loss program must—and must not—have, and we’ll sort through them all.
Join Liz, our licensed nutritionist, for one month and rebuild your entire relationship with food. So many of us think we’re doing everything right. We’re exercising, we’re eating well, we’re counting calories, you name it. But, we’re also stuck. The weight just isn’t coming off. Or, if it is, it isn’t staying off.
That’s because it isn’t just about calories-in, calories-out. You can’t lose weight and keep it off simply by eating less and exercising more. You need a metabolic reset, and that’s what we’ll do for 30 days.
- Reset your metabolism with whole, nutrient-dense foods, and a plan.
- Stop being afraid of food and learn how to eat to feel your best.
- No more starving yourself to lose a few pounds only to gain them back.
Here’s how it works:
- Access to videos with transcripts, meal plans, and helpful handouts. It’s all organized by week, but you can watch and read at your own pace!
- Office hours for live virtual Q & A sessions each week. And, don’t worry, if you can’t make the live session, you can submit your questions via email! Liz will answer them during office hours and send a summary out for anyone who wasn't able to attend.
Cost: $350 ***Sign up by Sept 15th and use code EARLYBIRD for $100 off!***

The Guppyfriend Washing Bag
The first pragmatic solution to prevent microplastic pollution from washing synthetic clothes
Did you know that every time you throw your yoga or workout gear into the wash you are also dumping microplastics into our waterways that end up embedded into the sea/plant life that fish then eat and well, you get the drift.
Help to eliminate the microplastics by washing your synthetic materials in one of these bags, every little bit helps!
The Problem
Microplastic released from washing harms the environment.
With each wash, countless microfibers from synthetic textiles make their way from washing machines into rivers, lakes, and oceans. Once in the environment, the microfibers concentrate pervasive bacteria and pollutants. They are consumed by aquatic organisms, which can result in gastrointestinal infections and blockages, reproductive problems, and starvation.
Serious consequences are not limited to animals and nature. The tiny plastic fragments threaten our own health: They enter our food and our bodies through the food chain.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?
Approximately every 10 years, Annapolis drafts a Comprehensive Plan. A Comprehensive Plan is a broad statement about the community, looking approximately 20 years ahead. The plan includes goals and strategies to achieve the goals, with specific performance measures and targets that will help determine if these goals are being met.
Where can I read copies or highlights of the Comprehensive Plan?
Review copies of the Draft Plan can be found at Michael E. Busch Library, Eastport Annapolis Neck Library, and the City Council Chambers at City Hall.
How do I leave comments on the draft plan?
How can I review the last (2009) Comprehensive plan?
What if I can't make it on September 5th?
The city has other, in-person sessions scheduled for September 6th and September 9th at Pip Moyer. (See flyer above)
