Building Confidence in COVID-19 Vaccines and
All Recommended Immunizations
Message From Headquarters
Thanks to safe and effective vaccines, considerable progress has been made in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic in the US, but we still have a long way to go in achieving higher vaccination coverage rates across the country. The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) continues to collaborate with multidisciplinary partner organizations to share insights and strategies to help healthcare professionals and community leaders promote and build vaccine confidence. The NFID toolkit, with videos, social media graphics, complimentary webinars, and other resources, based on the consensus report, COVID-19 Communications: Promoting Prevention Measures and Vaccine Confidence, is available online for all partners to use and share widely.
Recognizing that vaccine hesitancy remains a challenge, especially in rural and conservative communities, NFID is partnering with BIO on a rural radio media tour to address questions and concerns about vaccine safety and effectiveness. Through the tour, NFID Medical Director William Schaffner, MD, continues to share important messaging about COVID-19 vaccines. Additionally, NFID is collaborating with partners such as Made To Save to promote access to COVID-19 vaccines in communities of color.
Rapidly evolving situations like pandemics require a nimble, flexible approach. To help all stakeholders understand the implications of new vaccine developments and related public health guidance, NFID continues to share new episodes of The Schaffner Report, and recently submitted comments to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) to underscore key messages on COVID-19 vaccine safety and the importance of COVID-19 vaccines for adolescents.
As we work to strengthen confidence in COVID-19 vaccines, we must also address the disruptions in preventive care caused by the pandemic. The Keep Up The Rates campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of staying up to date on all recommended vaccines across the lifespan. In collaboration with 120+ partners, the campaign focus is now expanding to address coadministration of COVID-19 vaccines and other recommended vaccines, as well as health equity and disparities in health outcomes.
New NFID resources will be shared during National Immunization Awareness Month in August and throughout the upcoming respiratory virus season, in which the threat of COVID-19, influenza (flu), pneumococcal disease, and RSV circulating simultaneously looms large. This fall, NFID will again kick off the 2021-2022 season with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at the Annual Influenza and Pneumococcal Disease News Conference, and we will continue to work with our partners to build on the momentum and raise awareness about the importance of disease prevention throughout flu season. I am pleased to share that NFID earned an ASAE Gold Circle Merit Award for the 2020-2021 campaign, #StopTheSpread: COVID-19, Influenza, and Pneumococcal Disease Campaign, and we look forward to another successful campaign ahead.
NFID strongly believes in the power of collaboration to raise awareness with ‘one strong voice.’ We look forward to working with all of our partners in continuing to face the challenges ahead. As always, thank you for your support.
