Saskatchewan has the highest per capita percentage of rural artists in Canada, outside of the Atlantic provinces. According to Hill Strategies, in a study commissioned by Saskatchewan Arts Alliance, the majority of these rural artists (79%) are women, 55 years and older, and one in six (17%) are Indigenous. Many (221%) are either craftspeople or visual artists. This review also points out that Saskatchewan artists have a median personal income of $27,800 in 2020, 45% lower than that of all other Saskatchewan workers ($50,400) and below other Canadian artists ($30,200).
