FLORIDA LIONS EYE BANK & BEAUTY OF SIGHT FOUNDATION

2023 ANNUAL INSTALLATION GALA

The Florida Lions Eye Bank and the Beauty of Sight Foundation welcomed distinguished guests to the 2023 Annual Installation Gala, with our Executive Director, Lion Elizabeth Fout, and our Master of Ceremonies, Juan Tejera, PCC, leading the proceedings. This event was hosted at the Signature Grand in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Past District Governor, PDG, and Past Council Chairperson Tony Montes had the honor of being installed as the new president of Florida Lions Eye Bank. His leadership skills ensured a positive outlook for the future of the organization.

Helene Thompson, PCC, highly regarded for her contribution during her tenure, gracefully concluded her term. Although her role has changed, she continues to advocate for and support the organization's mission.

The Board of Directors for The Beauty of Sight Foundation announced its unanimous decision to maintain the current structure for the upcoming year. With unreserved confidence, we are extending the presidency of Geoffrey Wade, PID, whose inspirational leadership has been a beacon for our mission and initiatives.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the event's sponsors, Wells Fargo Private Bank, Miller Construction, and Calamos Wealth Management, who helped ensure the gala's success through their generous support. Their kindness and commitment to the mission of the Florida Lions Eye Bank and the Beauty of Sight are greatly appreciated.

HELEN KELLER DEAFBLIND AWARENESS WEEK

JUNE 26TH – JULY 2ND, 2016

Every year since, the Helen Keller National Center for DeafBlind Youths & Adults has commemorated the week with a national advocacy campaign in recognition of the achievements and capabilities of people who are DeafBlind. This year the focus is on employment by celebrating businesses that have hired DeafBlind individuals and educating others on the benefits of hiring from this very talented community.

People who are blind can perform most jobs that sighted people can. There are no “jobs for blind people”; most occupations in the economy are available to this population, given appropriate accommodations. You might be surprised to learn that people who are blind work in various jobs.

FLORIDA LIONS EYE BANK AND FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL

Did you know that Florida Lions Eye Bank relies on the generosity and support of the Florida Highway Patrol to ensure the safe and timely delivery of donated eyes? The eye bank and highway patrol partnership plays a crucial role in facilitating the transportation of these precious gifts and highlights the importance of community teamwork in serving our patients and advancing research to improve lives.

On June 1st, Officer Thomaz, seen with Lab Supervisor Katrina Llanes, delivered a cooler with eyes recovered from a funeral home in Broward County to the Florida Lions Eye Bank’s headquarters in Miami.
