Congratulations to Simona Valanciute and the team at Oasis on the opening of Oasis Rancho Bernardo. The grand opening drew over 1,200 people and Mayor Todd Gloria declared it Oasis Day in San Diego! The new facility is one of the most most comprehensive, technology-forward center of excellence for older adults. Oasis in Rancho Bernardo will serve today's older adults and at-risk children with learning opportunities, including art and exercise classes, technology, social gatherings and meeting space.

Congratulations to Dr. Jenny Jones, on earning tenure at the University of Florida. Citing factors in the decision, Provost Glover applauded the national recognition of scholarship, the quality and impact of teaching and service to the University, the profession and society.
Jenny is a graduate of our learning group program and our coaching program. Jenny's mom, the late Betsy Jones, was also a member of our Network having participating in a Learning Group and working with Barbara Mannino as her coach.
Jenny and her fellow USD colleagues Michelle Schneider, Sue Carter Kahl, PhD and Elizabeth Castillo, PhD recently published a paper with the hope it will help faculty teach students how to create an inclusive hiring practice An Executive Search Gone Awry: A Teaching Case Study of Biased Hiring Practices in a Small Organization.

Michelle and Sue are also parts of our Network, having participated in our learning groups and coaching programs.
Sue (below, left) serves as a coach for us and Michelle (below) is our researcher for the Clare Rose Sabbatical program.

Alberto Cortes, CEO of Mama's Kitchen, has announced his retirement effective January 2024. Alberto has served in this role for 16 years.
Under his leadership, Mama's Kitchen has grown into the largest provider of home-delivered meals in San Diego County. In the 2022-2023 fiscal year Mama's served a record 816,000 meals, a 23% increase over the prior year. Alberto has guided the organization in its expansion from an HIV-focused mission to serve San Diegans with other critical illnesses including cancer, type 2 diabetes, congestive heart failure, and chronic kidney disease – while remaining committed to the HIV community.
He has also led the organization’s evolution into the Food is Medicine paradigm, making it San Diego’s first and only provider of medically tailored meals.

Alberto is a graduate of our Executive Learning Group program and was the first nonprofit leader to leave on a Clare Rose Sabbatical over 10 years ago. Alberto serves as a Coach for us and, gratefully, will continue to do so in his retirement.

Kathi Anderson, retired CEO of Survivors of Torture, recently participated in a meeting at the Danish Foreign Ministry in Copenhagen. Kathi and some of her international torture treatment colleagues from Denmark, Columbia, Georgia, Palestine, an interpreter from Spain successfully advocated for further global support of torture survivors. It was a highly productive meeting following one they had earlier in Tbilisi, Georgia with the Danish Ambassador to Ukraine.
Kathi is a graduate of our learning group program and while retired, continues to advocate for torture survivors.

Drew Moser, Executive Director of the Lucky Duck Foundation, was recently selected by the Harvard Business School San Diego Alumni Club to receive one of their annual spots in their summer program - Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management. Drew was able to attend the July program and learn along side nonprofit leaders from throughout the country.
Drew is a graduate of our executive coaching program.

Congratulations to Tonya Torosian, CEO of Promises2Kids, who was selected by the San Diego Business Journal as a finalist for CEO of the year 2023. This award recgonizes Tonya's tireless leadership and advocacy for our most vulnerable children.
Tonya is a 2021 graduate of our Learning Group program and a Clare Rose Sabbatical recipient.

North County Philanthropy Council invited Fieldstone Leadereship Members Deb Martin, ElderHelp, Andy Carey, Border Philanthropy, and James Flores, nonprofit consultant, to participate on a recent panel “Unlocking the Value of Strategic Partnerships”. The "Fieldstone" panelists (Andy Carey, James Floros, Deborah Martin) joined Alex Goodman and Victoria Zapeda Sotelo in providing insightful input on how nonprofits can best collaborate for like minded causes.
Deb, Andy and Jim have all graduated from our Executive Learning Groups. Deb also serves as a coach for us and received a Clare Rose Sabbatical in 2020.

Congratuation to Donnie Dee, CEO of the San Diego Rescue Mission, as he and his team opened the The San Diego Rescue Mission Oceanside Navigation Center in August!
This 50-bed transitional shelter will be Oceanside’s first permanent shelter for men, women and families and will grow eventually be a 100 bed facility.

The Conrad Prebys Foundation recently announced the appointment of Emily Young and Chris Sichel to the foundation's leadership team. Chris is a member of Fieldstone Leadership Network San Diego having graduated from an Executive Learning Group many years ago and having recently received a Clare Rose Sabbatical. Emily, in her role with The Nonprofit Institute, has been a frequent collaborator with FLNSD on leadership programs, including both sessions of the program FORTIFY.
Chris will serve as a VP of Programs, leading on youth and workforce issues. Emily, also a VP of Programs,, will lead on arts and health related grantmaking. Both Emily and Chris will share responsibility for program management, medical research, as well as the foundation's leadership development and nonprofit capacity building efforts.
Victoria Hamilton has been elected to the Board of Directors for the Conrad Prebys Foundation. Victoria is a graduate of Fieldstone's Executive Learning Group program, having participated when she served as the Director of the City of San Diego's Commission for Arts and Culture.
