Our new Soul Matters Adult Small Groups program will help us each develop a deeper understanding of the monthly theme and build connections among participants.

This October theme is Deep Listening.

Please review the packet for October here.

To access the October packet link above you must use your PrairieUU email account.
If you do not have a PrairieUU email account - please contact Rhonda W.
If you would like a pdf copy of the October packet, please contact Janet S.

Because of copyright rules, we are not able to put the Soul Matter packets on our website.
In the packet there will be:
  • Several spiritual exercises to choose from
  • Several “questions” to choose from
  • Lots of additional resources, including readings, videos and music

In the group time, you will share your experience/reflection with the exercise you chose. After members share their experience, all participants can reflect on and appreciate others sharing. You may find you want to use the packet for a journal exploration that could be done if you are participating in the group or choose to explore on your own.

Dear Beluvs ...

Winter is coming! and with it comes snow and the flu season. Get your flu shot! I just want to remind you to be prepared and well stocked. Unfortunately as we are all aware COVID is still very alive and well. We are still doing well in Colorado and the local area but still on the up tick with the virus numbers growing. I would like to ask you to remember to please be sure to wear a mask and limit your exposure.

As you may have seen, we will have our 1st all church in-person gathering this Sunday (weather permitting) for our Harvest Festival.  If you can attend, please honor all social distancing practices and wear a mask! I also want to remind you, if you can please be sure to stock up on food and supplies as we enter these next few colder months. If you need any assistance with finances, or other help/support please let me know, I and many members of our community are here to support each other.

In Service,

CoSM is proud to announce that Susan Ermisch has agreed to be the co-chair of our team. She will be learning the ropes and will be ready to chair CoSM in the next fiscal year! Yay, Susan and thanks so much!!!
Our next new project will be to review the Visioning section regarding a new Home for Prairie. We have received information from Bill Baird about the previous research done on this project Thanks to all who helped on that committee!
We are also going to be working on a review of our previous IDI test results to see where we can improve.

 In Faith,

From the Board ...

Dear PrairieUU,

The next Board Meeting is on October 21, 2020 at 6:30 pm to 8:15 pm. The action items on the Agenda include the following:

  • Approval of Board Goals
  • Review of COSM recommendations on the Role and Responsibilities of our elected Nominating Committee
  • Role of Board Liaisons to Standing Committees
  • New Fund-Raising Initiatives

There will also be opportunities for discussion and regular reports from our youth representative, Xander K., and the Minister and Finance committee. Join us if you wish. We continue our open time for Members/Friends to make comments or suggestions.

I want to urge you to attend our next discussion about Widening the Circle of Concern UUA report and how PrairieUU will respond to the recommendations. The COSM, Justice League, Pastor AJ and Andrew Paschetto will lead the discussion around Theology. View the UUA report here (page 7 to 19). This discussion is especially relevant to the Core Team who plan our worship and educational programs. This discussion is on 10/20/2020 at 6:30 pm on Google Meet.

I am assuming that many of you have already voted! That is great news! UUs Vote. I loved the description of Black Churches' promotion to have members vote: Souls to the Polls!

In Covenant,

Vivian Littlefield, President
Membership/Communication Committee

My name is Brenda Peterson, I have been a PrairieUU member since 2006 and am the chair of the Membership/Communication Committee. We want you to know that our work reaching out to visitors and guests of PrairieUU and this beloved community, is continuing. We care. We also want our existing members and regular guests to know we value your existence, your time, your opinions and your contributions.

We will be trying to reconnect and work to engage you where you wish to be engaged and soon will be reaching out to the entire congregation. I encourage you to reach back to us and answer our calls, emails, requests for feedback and insight. We are striving to keep PrairieUU strong so that when we return to in person worship we will be a healthy, uplifted church.

Thank you all,

Please join us for this month’s Men’s Group!
We will be discussing what each of us may have learned as a result of some of the more difficult times we've experienced in our lives. Some of us have experienced a job loss, loss of a loved one, relationship issues, such as divorce...perhaps life-threatening accidents, illnesses...both physical or emotional. What 'positives' came out of these 'negative' experiences? We will have a short discussion after each story.

Vote

  • As citizens and as Unitarian Universalists, we have the awesome responsibility and privilege of participating in our representative democracy. In Colorado voting is easy and virtually fool-proof. Remember to complete and submit your ballot well in advance of November 3 and to fill out your ballot from top to bottom. State and local governments have profound impacts on our lives and on redistricting that will soon occur. Educate yourselves about the 11 ballot measures by consulting the 2020 State Ballot Information Booklet (Blue Book.) If you have any questions about voting or about the ballot measures, you may contact Clark Huff at clarkh@prairieuu.org for assistance.

  • A Good Source for Election Information is here

  • A women's choice has been a long held resolution at the UUA general assemblies. Ballots are out and there are many propositions and amendments on them. Say NO to proposition 115 to support a Women's Choice. The Colorado 22-Week Abortion Ban Initiative (Proposition 115) would prohibit abortion procedures after 22 weeks of gestational age. Under the rule, an abortion after 22 weeks would only be permitted in an immediate life-threatening emergency with no exceptions for rape, incest, a lethal fetal diagnosis, or the health or medical needs of the patient. Abortion after 22 weeks only accounts for about 1% of total abortion procedures and in many cases is the result of major gestational complications that are found later in pregnancy. Any physician who performs an abortion after 22 weeks would be found in violation of this initiative and face criminal charges and suspension of their medical license by the Colorado Medical Board. This should remain a personal medical decision between a woman and her doctor, not the government. Women should have a choice, if they wish to continue a pregnancy.
