Hi Everyone,
I'm David Less, I'm the Chairman of the North American Board of the Abrahamic Reunion. We are an organization that has been working to bring peace to the Holy Land for the last 20 plus years.
What we do is very simple: we bring together people in different religions, faiths, ideals and ideas, and we sit together, we look at each other, we talk to each other, we get to know each other.
We do this because, in Israel and the Palestinian Territories, this is not common. People stay with their own faith and friends who are like them, and conflict continues to emerge because thereโs such a lack of understanding, not intellectual understanding, but really heart to heart understanding.
This year, Ramadan, Passover, and Easter all converge in the same time period.
In Ramadan at the end of the fast day (Muslims fast for 30 days during the day), there is an evening meal which is celebratory and conscious of our connection to the planet and to each other. What we've done for the last 20 years is celebrate it by bringing together Jews, Christians, Muslims, and Druze to eat together, to talk to each other, to get to know each other, to break down the barriers, and it's really starting to work.
Every year we've had one Iftar, this year we have four: we have young people doing one on their own, we have people with some powerful government positions, ambassadors, and so on, coming together to help promote the idea of peace.
We have people of the different faiths really desiring to be together, and we need help, we need your help financially, and we need support with prayer and with good feelings, especially during this time when there is real conflict on the planet.
Can we do something? Of course we can. Peace is possible, but we need to take the steps.
We need to raise $30,000, which in these days is not that much in Israel, to put on these events, to put an event on in the West Bank, to put a large event on for clergy & government figures, to put on a womenโs event, to put on a Druze event, and really push to get people to get to know each other and raise the consciousness there so that people are more than willing to go out on a limb and say, โYeah I want peace, I don't like this status quo, I don't like what's happening.โ
We need peace, and we need to build peace, not make peace, but actually build it step by step by step.
This is a great step that we're taking, as I said we've done this for many years, but there's only been one Iftar, one meal, this year we're going to have four, and possibly more.
