FROM THE PASTOR

Rev. Rebekah Abel Lamar

"Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine,  to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen."

-Ephesians 3:20-21

Tuesday's meeting of the Session opened with these verses from Ephesians. Together we talked about our hopes for GSPC and what it meant to trust God to accomplish "abundantly far more than all we could ask or imagine."

I have loved these verses for years, drawing strength from God's ability to do more than we can even think to ask. This week, however, it struck me that our job is to imagine and ask. Imagination can at times be a luxury. There are times (like a pandemic) when we are constrained in what is even possible. We find ourselves just trying to maintain the best we can. But these verses reminded me that we are called to more than that. We are called to dream and imagine what God wants for our community and world and ask God to help us make it a reality, all while trusting that God will do much, much more.

My challenge in this new year is that each of you spend time with these verses praying that God would stretch our imaginations to a broader view of God's vision for you and for us as a church family. The promises are plain and exciting, and I look forward to what 2022 will bring.

Grace & Peace,

Rebekah

Opportunities for Service

Please remember the people our church is serving and those who work with them daily in your prayers.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels is in need of a driver for the Northern route on Tuesdays and the Middle route on Thursdays. The Northern route serves 12 people (eight (8) are at Baptist Oaks) at four stops. The Middle route serves seven (7) people at six (6) stops. If you are interested in volunteering for this mission, please contact Lisa deShazo.

Cold Weather Clothing Donations

During the month of January, we will be collecting gently worn cold weather clothing items for men. women, and children - such as coats, hats, gloves, scarves. Also, socks are a much needed item for those in shelters. These items will be given to various agencies that distribute clothing to those who are homeless or are in need. There is a box designated for these donations at the Jackson Street entrance.

PB&J for Meals on Wheels

Our 45 Meals on Wheels recipients get a sandwich bag each day, along with their hot meal. The bag has a sandwich and a snack. Peanut butter and jelly is often on the menu we need donations of creamy peanut butter and grape jelly to help fill the pantry for the remainder of the year. There is a donation box in the Jackson Street entrance for these donations.

McKemie Place

GSPC has agreed to provide lunch for up to 40 residents at McKemie Place on the second Friday of each month. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered for this mission over the last three months and into 2022. Due to its funding situation, the agency depends on volunteers to provide both lunch and dinner for the residents. They are looking to find individuals or groups that would be willing to provide a lunch or dinner meal on a regular basis each month. They are especially in need of volunteers to provide lunch meals. So, if you, as an individual, or are a member of a group that might be interested in providing this on a regular basis, please contact them at 251-287-2225.
