from the March 22, 2022 meeting
Milpitas Adult Education adopts new mission statement, honors Adult Ed Week with video
"To educate and empower adult students to acquire and to expand academic and occupational skills, become socially responsible, and enhance their lives while making positive contributions to their families and community," is the new, enhanced Mission Statement for Milpitas Adult Education.

The Milpitas Unified School District Board of Education unanimously adopted the MAE Mission Statement as well as the following MAE New School-wide Learner Outcomes (SLOs):

  1. Identify and explore personal, educational, and workplace goals
  2. Build civic engagement
  3. Develop multiple literacies

Milpitas Adult Education's SLOs are aligned with the needs and aspirations of the adult learners in our community and region," read Principal Giuliana Brahim, who was joined by Citizenship Teacher Jennifer Gagliardi and Transition Specialist Angela Holmes, as well as a slew of her adult learners.

Also, at the March 22 meeting, MAE staff and students shared a video reading of Resolution 2022.33 Declaring the Week of March 27-April2 as Adult Education Week, which was unanimously approved by the Board.

  
RECOGNITIONS
Rancho MS 7th Grade Boys Basketball Team
Coach Frank Castro and the Rancho Milpitas Middle School 7th Grade Boys Basketball Team were recognized by the Board of Education and District Leadership for being exemplary student athletes and completing a championship season.
Sinnott Spelling Bee Champion Kushagra Jha
Sinnott Spelling Bee Champion Kushagra Jha was honored by the Board of Education and District Leadership for winning the school-wide Bee and advancing in the regional competition.
State Champ Milpitas Xtreme Robotics Team
The Milpitas Xtreme Robotics Team was recognized by the Board of Education and District leadership for winning a state championship and advancing to the world competition.

2022-23 SCHOOL CALENDAR
Board adopts revised 2022-23 school calendar
A revised 2022-23 School Calendar was approved by the Milpitas Unified School District Board of Education at the March 22, 2022 meeting. Notably, the first day of school for the 2022-23 school year will now be Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

This winter, MUSD gathered input from staff, students and parents in a survey as to how to incorporate wellness days and professional development days into the modified school year calendar for 2022-2023. The same process will begin to review the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school year calendars in the fall.

HIGHLIGHTS
Randall Elementary World Languages School students recite Cesar Chavez Day resolution
Students from Robert Randall World Languages School produced a video reading of Resolution 2022.32 Recognizing and Honoring March 31 as Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning, which was unanimously adopted by the MUSD Board of Education at the March 22 meeting.
Board ratifies agreement with CSEA employees for salary increase
The Board of Education unanimously approved a new agreement with the California School Employees Association Chapter 281 that included a 5 percent pay increase across the board.

Negotiations concluded March 1, and CSEA unit members ratified the Tentative Agreements (TA’s) between MUSD and the Association on March 9. The 5 percent across the board increase is retroactive to July 1, 2021. In addition, effective January 1, 2022, the district shall pay the premium cost of each full-time employee’s health insurance (including dependents/domestic partner) up to the maximum of $1,171.00 per month and be prorated for part-time employees.

Superintendent Cheryl Jordan shared her Moving Forward Together: MUSD COVID-19 Update 2021-22 with the Board and community at the March 22 meeting, touching on the impact of the COVID on local schools, students and staff members, along with vaccination and infection rates.
