February 17, 2021
Zion’s School mission is “Teaching Christ and Serving Families.” The school shares Christ by teaching students about Christ and changes lives by serving the school families.

Our vision is that all students will experience God’s love and forgiveness and learn to show that same forgiveness to others. Students will be safe, responsible, and respectful to themselves and others, and achieve academically to the best of their ability.

RING THE BELL!!

We are excited to share that Jade has completed Chemo and is back to school!

Over the last five months, we have been praying for Zion ECEC Student, Jade, who was diagnosed back on 9/11/2020 with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a form of cancer occurring in the lymph nodes.
Throughout his journey, we have been amazed to watch God surround this family with His unfailing love and peace.

Now that he has completed radiation he is now in REMISSION! Thank You, Jesus!
Ash Wednesday Services
this evening at 7 pm

We will have an outdoor service that will be located along the breezeway for the 7 pm evening service. Please note that we will have plenty of space to spread out for social distancing. If you would prefer to watch from home, we will be streaming the service on Facebook Live.
March Hot Lunch Menu is available on Renweb. Orders will be accepted until February 20th. A $5.00 late fee will apply on orders placed after the 20th of the month. Hot Lunch will not be available on Renweb to purchase after February 28, 2021. Please help the kitchen staff by being sure your hot lunch orders are completed prior to the end of the month and ordered through Renweb.
If you have any questions, please contact Alora Nadeau.
MESSAGE FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
Dear Zion Families,

We are well into the second half of the school year now. It's amazing that the year is more than half over. As I reviewed the progress reports that went out last week, I noticed a couple of things that show a lot about being successful. I think this is a good time to share them and look forward to great things in the second half of this school year.

The first is attendance. Most students who do extremely well have great attendance. They are here almost every day and they are here on time. Both of these things are important to learning. We certainly understand that students do sometimes get sick and there is the need for some absences, but there is a lot learned every moment we are here.

The second is participation. Students who are performing well in the classroom are actively engaged. I can see it in my visits to classrooms and in the comments that teachers write. I very much recommend that all parents encourage active participation in class.

The third is perseverance. The ability and willingness to take on a challenge and stick with it are so important. We want to encourage all of our students to do their best, even when things are challenging - this is how they will accomplish great things! Successful students continue to work hard, especially when things are challenging. We hope you will encourage and inspire this at home as we do the same here at Zion.

To all of our Zion students… keep up the great work that I see you doing every day. I am proud of each and every one of you. God loves you and so do I!

To our Zion parents, thank you for your continued support! We are a team working together to guide your children as they grow into the successful young men and women that God desires them to be.
MESSAGE FROM ECEC DIRECTOR
ECEC Registration Savings

Just a reminder that February 28th is the last day to take advantage of the $50 off next year’s annual registration.
An added bonus…to say thank you for spreading the good news about our ECEC, the referral credit was raised to $400! You will receive credit on your tuition bill after the new family has been enrolled and attended for two months.
ECEC Registration
February 1st began open enrollment (re-enrollment) for the 2021-2022 school year. If you did not get a packet or need another, please let Mrs. Lori know. This is also a good time to talk with your friends about enrolling in our Zion ECEC; remember you receive a $400.00 referral credit for each family that enrolls.
Lunch Box
If you prefer, ECEC students may start bringing lunch boxes each day instead of paper bags. We still do not want backpacks as they cannot be properly washed and disinfected. I know the children love to wear their backpacks, so hopefully soon, we can start back with these.
We want to personally invite all our families to worship here at Zion with us on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. You have two options: come to God’s Playground (elementary playground next to ECEC) to worship in person, socially distanced, of course. The other option is to worship in the comfort of your home through Facebook Live; go to Zion Lutheran Church of Anaheim. We would love for your family to join us.

CHURCH NEWS UPDATE
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO FOLLOW JESUS?
The Red Letter Challenge is a 40-Day discipleship challenge.
In the Red Letter Challenge, you will be introduced,
through the words of Jesus, to the five main principles
of being a disciple.

If you are tired of just checking religious boxes,
if you know that you were made for something more,
and if you want to make a greater difference in this world,
the Red Letter Challenge is for you!

WHO IS THE RED LETTER CHALLENGE FOR?
This Challenge is for anybody and everybody. Young and old.
Men and women. Church and unchurched. New Christian, life-long Christian,
non-Christian. It's for anybody who's looking for something more in life.
RLC Kick Off This SUNDAY!
Join us this Sunday as Pastor Tim begins a new Sermon Series: The Red Letter Challenge

We are planning for a Single Sunday Service outside at 9:30 am. Enjoy a beautiful service outdoors located on God's playground in the courtyard area over by the school with plenty of space to spread out for social distancing.

NOTE: ZION WILL BE PROVIDING CHAIRS FOR ALL IN ATTENDANCE
Senior Parking available between the Gym and SAC buildings.

We will have two entrances for people to enter:

  1. The walkthrough gate between the playground and preschool area
  2. The walkthrough gate by the gym.

We encourage you to invite your family and friends, and while wearing your mask, join your brothers and sisters in Christ for a responsible social distance worship experience!

Although we encourage you to join us on God's Playground in the courtyard area, if you are unable to join us in person, we encourage you to watch the Facebook Live streaming of our services at 9:30 AM. Our weekly Zion Buzz newsletter will have a copy of the service bulletin with the words to the liturgy, scriptures, songs, and prayers so that you can join us in lifting your hearts and voices in worship.

Zion serves Communion on the 1st & 3rd Sunday of the month at our in-person service. However, we also remain available to provide “touchless” communion to you at your home. Simply request a kit through the church office or click here to sign up for an @Home Communion Kit.

We are continuing to take reservations (RSVP) for the time being so that we can ensure the health and safety of all who are attending. Let us know you're coming by registering yourself and your family. Please note, that an RSVP is required by all people including children.

Life is full of challenges.  Many of them life just throws at us and we see how we will fair through them.  2020 for example was full of challenges we didn’t get to choose.  2021 seems to be more of the same.  But there are many other challenges we get to choose – or friends choose for us buy inviting us on social media; the ice bucket challenge, the no sugar challenge, the let a website choose your personality challenge, the math pun challenge, the list goes on and on.  Some are helpful or at lease benefit a good cause – others just waste your time!

But what if you could choose a challenge that would better prepare you for the challenges you don’t get to choose?  The Red Letter Challenge is just that.  It’s a challenge to join our church in READING and DOING the words of Jesus for 40 days. If you know that you were made for something more, if you want to grow closer to Jesus, and if you want to make a greater difference in this world, the Red Letter Challenge is for you!  Even if you still are not sure about Jesus, reading his own words for 40 days is a great way to get to know Him.

You may start down the Red Letter Challenge path, but be warned, along the way Jesus is going to challenge you through His own words to Be, Forgive, Serve, Give, and Go in His Name.  Do you have what it takes to follow Jesus? Let’s find out together in our new series and small groups.
