Summer is here and the kids are out of school. Many of you will be traveling this great and wonderful state of ours and many will go out even further to explore across the country. Whatever you plans, be sure to take time and experience the built environment in the way that inspired your passion for the craft you practice on a daily basis. This past month has been a celebration of architecture through the AIA Michigan Honor Awards and the AIA Conference on Architecture.
This year the AIA Michigan Honor Awards were held at the Henry Ford Museum, and recognized fantastic projects and wonderful individuals. Projects from both large and small studios inspire and offer some new opportunities for you to add to your summer destination experience. Such as Riverside Park Pavilion along Detroit’s southwest riverfront as part of Riverside Park, or the memorial for the “Fallen 22” of the First Battalion, 24th Marines in Chesterfield Township. These and all the project winners this year are examples of the positive impact architects are having in Michigan, through design.
The recognition winners at this year’s Honor Awards represent the best of us. I’d like to acknowledge our winners this year: Kemba Braynon, AIA (President’s Award), Ellen Duff, AIA (Young Architect), Samantha Szeszulski, AIA (Young Architect), Katherine Banicki, Hon. Aff. AIAMI (Leadership Award), and Norman Hamann Jr., AIA (Gold Medal). These individuals are examples to us all in how they practice, engage their community, and represent AIA. Thank you all! Read more.
