SaskCulture Member Consultation and AGM this week

On June 15, 2023, SaskCulture will bring together its membership for a consultation, beginning at 10 am, and its Annual General Meeting, beginning at 3:30 pm. Members and community members are also invited to a reception, taking place at 5:30 pm, to mark the retirements of Dennis Garreck and Rose Gilks. Click here to register or RSVP, or find out more.

There have been some updates to the list of SaskCulture Board of Directors nominees. The slate of nominees that the Nominations Committee will present to the membership at the Annual General Meeting on June 16 is as follows:

  • Heritage (one, two-year term): Yvonne Hotzak
  • Membership at Large (one, two-year term): Adam Krammer, Christine Ruys
  • Métis (one, two-year term): Candice Evans-Waite

SK Arts seeking new Board members

SK Arts is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) and nominations for professional artists or arts professionals to join its Board of Directors. Interested applicants can read more about board member roles, review relevant governance policies and submit their EOIs using the fillable PDF form on the SK Arts website. The completed PDF forms can be submitted to nominations@sk-arts.ca.

Celebrating World Refugee Day

World Refugee Day, on June 20, is a day that celebrates the strength of people forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. To find events happening in the province and online events from across Canada, visit the Regina Open Door Society and the UN Refugee Agency websites.

New Inclusive Growth Awards open for nominations

This June, during Pride Month and National Indigenous History Month, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce launched the new Inclusive Growth Awards, to recognize and shine a light on organizations that do exceptional work to remove barriers and create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive economy. The awards are open to any members of chambers of commerce and boards of trade. Nominations are open until July 28, 2023.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

Queer 101 Workshop (OUTSaskatoon)

This workshop will introduce participants to the broad spectrum of identities that make up the 2SLGBTQ community, along with common barriers and issues that are present within work environments. Finally, participants will be introduced to strategies, policies, and actions that can be taken at an individual and organizational level in order to affect change within their work environment.

Grant Writing Workshop (Rivers West District for Sport, Culture & Recreation)

This session will cover the development of a grant strategy; the creation of a grant "cheat sheet" to save time and energy; the best prospecting strategies for finding grants; and how to set up protocols for tracking and delivering the outcomes for repeated success.

When: June 19, 2023 (North Battleford) and June 26, 2023 (Loon Lake)

Engagement with Indigenous Communities (Community Engagement and Research Centre, University of Regina)

During this interactive session, the facilitators will share insights from their work together, on how to begin and sustain relationships with Indigenous people and communities. They will discuss how using the UN Sustainable Development Goals is a framework to build community and Nation confidence.

Planting Pride (Prairie Central District for Sport, Culture and Recreation, Saskatchewan Pride, Humboldt & Area Pride Network)

Join this event for a conversation about 2SLGBTQ allyship in the community. Listen, learn and ask questions with your peers on how to create safer spaces in our communities.
