LWV OPRF June 12 Week in Preview

Don’t miss the first Chicago-based production of this hilarious, hopeful, and

deeply personal Tony Award-nominated Pulitzer Prize finalist, "What the Constitution Means to Me." This fresh from Broadway play is perfect for the League of Women Voters! The Timeline Box Office, 615 W. Wellington, Chicago, said that there are plenty of seats available for the 4:00pm performance on Saturday, June 24. If we purchase 10 or more tickets, we will get a 15% discount, reducing the regular priced seats to $52.70. The house is small, so this will be an intimate experience. Please let Beverly Graham know if you are interested ASAP via email, or text to (708)207-8857.

Annual Meeting Review

On June 8, 35 League members attended our 98th Annual Meeting and passed the 2023-24 budget, approved our program priorities for next year, and elected the 2023-24 slate of 11 Officers and Directors. Jane Hastings was approved and is continuing as President!   And Joan Petertil received this year’s Hazel Hanson award.

As of now, 20 of our members will be serving as Directors and/or Committee Chairs, all of whom are listed on our website. If you haven't already, do consider joining a committee for 2023-24.  Thanks to committee chairs and the board who worked on our 2022-23 projects. They are: Tina Birnbaum, Marsha Borders, Judy Crown, Amber Elmer, Michelle Fitz-Henry, Beverly Graham, Sue Jaffee, Peggy Kell, Belinda Lutz-Hamel, Suzanne Isaacson, Leslie Lauderdale, Alex Matthews, Judith McDevitt, Mary Cay Murray, Barb Paterick, Marilyn Pearson, Mary Ann Porucznik, Sarah Shirk, and the Co-Presidents Jane Hastings and Joan Petertil.

A big “Thank-you” to Brookdale Senior Living for hosting our meeting on Thursday night.  Thanks also to our guest speaker Oak Park Trustee and Takeout 25 Founder Ravi Parakkat, who spoke about the creation of Takeout 25 and their future plans.

A well deserved commendation to Mena Boulanger, our newest 50 year member! Mena could not attend the meeting, but she thanks our League and says, “It has been an honor to be part of the League’s important voter registration effort and policy studies.”

You can see photos from the event here and read the Co-President's address here.
