Jie Shen, Ph.D.
Professor of Neurology, Harvard Medical School
Senior Scientist, Department of Neurology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital
Jie Shen is a Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Senior Scientist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Since 1998, she has directed a molecular neurobiology lab whose research focuses on revealing the pathogenic mechanisms of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Her lab uses a multidisciplinary approach to investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying degeneration of specific neural cells in the adult central nervous system. Through the generation and analysis of a variety of mouse models that carry mutations in the disease genes, her lab identified several early functional impairments that may trigger the pathogenic cascade leading to neurodegeneration.
