Dear Orange County family,

As we enter the holiday weekend, I’d like to take a moment to recognize the 245th birthday of our nation’s independence and all who have served our country to protect our freedoms. There is no question we have so much to be grateful for, especially as we continue to overcome the challenges we’ve all faced throughout the pandemic.

This year, families and friends can once again get together for celebrations without the fear of getting sick – a welcome change from just one year ago.

However, variant cases of the coronavirus are slowly rising in the state. As County employees, we must lead by example when it comes to continuing to slow the spread. This holiday weekend, remember to practice the 3W’s:

  • Wash your hands
  • Wear a face covering if you are not vaccinated
  • Watch your distance between yourself and others

Teamwork is essential in facing challenges in our community. By working together, we can build a safer and stronger community while keeping the County’s positivity rate low.

We are also watching Hurricane Elsa and will keep you posted on any emergency activations.

Thank you for all you do to ensure Orange County residents are safe.

May you have a safe and happy Independence Day holiday,
Jerry L. Demings, Orange County Mayor signature
