Member Spotlight: Elijah's Promise
A mobile truck known as “Elijah’s Promise On Wheels” has created an opportunity for the community kitchen to make its biggest impact ever, allowing it to double the amount of meals being served to those in need through direct food delivery.

To kick off the second summer season with the food truck, Elijah’s Promise launched an expansion of its mobile delivery services to further focus on low-income seniors and families. From Tuesday to Sunday through December, the food truck travels to different sections of Middlesex County and special events to deliver hot meals, no questions asked.
“We never could have imagined pre-pandemic that we would be serving this many meals. But thanks to the flexibility that the food truck offers us, we are able to bring meals directly to those that can’t make it to our kitchen in New Brunswick,” said Executive Director Michelle Wilson.

Elijah’s Promise served more than 1,000 meals a day in 2021, totaling more than 365,000 free and nutritious meals. Along with serving hot meals seven days a week, it launched the Community Nutrition initiative to connect clients to free, comprehensive nutrition education and counseling.
“Elijah’s Promise offers wraparound social services that connect individuals to resources that help to harnesses the power of food with our job training curriculum, social enterprise food businesses community food systems advocacy and more,” Wilson said.

Community kitchen organizers are eager to welcome the return of their largest annual fundraiser next year after a three-year hiatus because of the pandemic. Chef’s Night, an evening that features gourmet small plates, fine wines and spirits and mouth-watering desserts, is scheduled at The Palace at Somerset on June 5, 2023.

Wilson explained that superb community partners, such as The Palace and Middlesex County Regional Chamber of Commerce, make it easier to meet the growing needs of the community.

“Many chamber members and the business community as a whole have been essential to us during these difficult times. This is an amazing community to be a part of because there is so much support and involvement,” she added.

Be Fearlessly Authentic and Bravely You at the 21st Annual Women's Leadership Summit
Success is different for every person and is especially relevant when one considers the diversity of New Jersey, particularly Middlesex County, and the events of the past year plus. Therefore, it was important to select a wide variety of topics that affects individuals on a professional, personal and wellness level. This allows the event to be a “one-stop-shop” which takes a holistic approach to an individual’s development regardless of their background, age or occupation.

The Chamber’s Women in Business Committee has been focused on meeting the needs of our workforce today and the future for nearly two decades with our Women’s Leadership Summit, which provides women with the opportunity to develop, learn and connect with other female professionals each year.
