Public Safety Update

As we all know, Oakland has a major crime problem and enough is enough! I believe we need to use all of the tools and strategies available to help prevent and reduce crime. Read my statement to learn more about how the enhanced technology of automatic plate license readers can help to improve safety.

Earlier this month, I attended a public safety meeting hosted by neighbors on Campus Dr. They were concerned about the criminals targeting women walking or driving alone and being robbed for jewelry and Apple watches. As a result some of the women in the neighborhood now walk in groups or don't go out walking anymore. Our residents shouldn't need to retreat indoors, or use air horns to scare away criminals and alert their neighbors. I am working closely with neighbors on Campus Drive and throughout the district to address safety concerns. Please continue to reach out to my office with your ideas about how we can work together to make our communities safer and create a vision for a vibrant future.

National Night Out

Thank you to everyone who participated National Night Out in District 6. Your willingness to come together is what made this annual community building event a huge success. It was a pleasure for myself and staff to get to know constituents personally. We were able to visit NNO block parties on 57th Ave, Madera and Kingsland, Camden, College Court, Normandy, and St. Bernard's Church. NNO is one of the crucial ways we can strengthen public safety, build relationships within our community and the meet folks on our block. I'm looking forward to celebrating NNO again next year!

Seminary Avenue Paving Project Survey

The Department of Transportation will repave Seminary Avenue between Foothill Boulevard and Sunnymere Avenue in 2025. This project gives the City a chance to make important safety improvements on Seminary. The project will also continue the work of the LAMMPS Project (Phase 1 and Phase 2) along MacArthur Boulevard, whose goal is to connect the Mills community and the surrounding neighborhoods to the Laurel District. As part of early outreach, the City wants feedback on what type of bike connection to build on Seminary between Camden and Sunnymere: Seminary Ave Bike Connection Survey (open through Sept 15). To learn more or sign up for project updates, visit the Seminary Avenue Paving Project webpage.
