February 19, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

This is to advise that the Tentative Agreement for a two year extension of the Provincial Collective Agreement has been ratified. I want to take this opportunity to thank every NTLA member who participated in the ratification vote. As leader of our democratic institution, I was pleased to see and engage with members, at virtual Q&A sessions and through many other contacts, openly discussing and debating their views and the points that were important to them.

It was the opinion of the Negotiating Team, Provincial Executive and our Branch Presidents that this was the best deal possible in the current economic environment. Achieving any monetary gain in this round of bargaining, given the present context and reality of our province, is not insignificant.

This two-year contract extension provides some positive movement on salaries, including a retroactive increase, which was identified as a top priority in member submissions for collective bargaining. And, we remain in a position to re-open negotiations on the full Provincial Collective Agreement as early as November 2021, should that be determined by Executive to be the best decision at that time.

The results of the ratification vote are:

85.9% - ACCEPT

14.1% - REJECT

The changes, including the salary increase effective September 1, 2020, will come into effect as soon as the new agreement has been signed by all parties. We will be working to ensure that occurs as quickly as possible and will inform members when this happens.

Thank you again,

Dean Ingram
NLTA President
