August 30, 2023
Dear New York City students, faculty, and staff:
As we prepare for the Fall 2023 semester, we are pleased to announce a series of capital improvements to our campus.

15 BEEKMAN TO OPEN FOR FALL SEMESTER: Our much-anticipated 26-story building includes a new residence hall with suite-style living spaces (and its own dedicated entrance in the lobby), new dining facilities including a Starbucks Café on the lobby level, our relocated campus library, student study spaces, the Learning Commons, meeting, community and collaborative areas, and the new Bianco Room for meetings and events. It will also be the new home for the Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems, with classrooms, offices, and labs. Complete information about 15 Beekman is available here

Please note that Starbucks and the Marketplace will open in the 15 Beekman lobby in the first week of the semester, but main dining operations will continue in One Pace Plaza while final construction completes for the 15 Beekman dining facilities. Full dining operations will move to 15 Beekman in mid-September. Also, the faculty dining room at One Pace Plaza will open for the start of the semester, but without food service.

As with any new construction, there will still be some final punch-list items to resolve; including final modifications to the outdoor terrace spaces which will remain closed until work is completed. We’ll schedule that work to minimize interruption, and we appreciate your anticipated cooperation.

Stay tuned for information about a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and we look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful new space.

COMPLETING THE MOVE OUT OF ONE PACE PLAZA EAST: With the move into 15 Beekman, we’re preparing to close One Pace Plaza East so that we can begin renovations there. Information about relocations of departments, offices, and services can be found here

Several operations will remain in One Pace Plaza East until the end of September: University Health Care, the Office of Safety and Security, and the ID Card Office. These offices and services will move into 161 William Street and some into 33 Beekman when we are once again able to fully re-occupy areas. Please check this website for information about those moves.

PREPARING FOR THE ONE PACE PLAZA EAST RENOVATION: This will be a major, multi-year construction project, which we anticipate completing in time for the Fall 2026 semester. As the project gets underway in early October, you will see a series of protections including fences, scaffoldings, and sidewalk sheds rise around the construction site as demolition begins. The One Pace Plaza courtyard will be closed through the construction period for safety purposes.

Final designs are still underway, and we will share renderings as soon as they are available. We will also communicate construction progress and any access to changes to One Pace Plaza to the community, and we will post updates to our website

OTHER SUMMER IMPROVEMENTS: We made some renovations to One Pace Plaza West, 161 William Street, and 41 Park Row this summer to accommodate some offices and departments that are moving out of One Pace Plaza East. You can find full details on our website. We also improved ADA accessibility for both 33 Beekman and 161 William Street. Additionally, New York City building code requires façade inspection and repair on a regular basis. We completed that work on the west side of One Pace Plaza this summer, and that scaffolding will soon be removed. Because 41 Park Row is a landmarked building, the process there takes longer, but we anticipate it will be complete and the scaffolding removed by the end of October. You can learn about all of our summer projects, including work on the Westchester campuses on our website.

IMPORTANT UPDATE ON TRASH COLLECTION: To reduce waste, increase recycling, and decrease costs, the University will implement a centralized trash collection program on all campuses, effective Friday, September 1. Cleaning staff will no longer remove trash or recycling from individual offices or classrooms. Centrally located trash and recycling bins will be placed in strategic locations in all buildings, marked with proper signage. Laboratory spaces will not be impacted. This new system will improve the separation of waste and greatly reduce the usage of plastic bin liners. It will help us track waste management data and meet our sustainability goals. It will also help us increase composting at Pace—organic waste bins will be provided on all three campuses. You can learn more here about the benefits of this change and how it will impact you.

We look forward to continuing to work together to provide the Pace Community with modern and efficient spaces for living, learning, working, and collaborating. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact AVP of Facilities and Capital Projects Aisha Moyla at amoyla@pace.edu.
Sincerely,
Ibi Yolas,
Vice President, University Campus Planning and Facilities
