Habitat for Humanity of Denton County builds homes, communities, and hope - even for honeybees!

We are starting to prepare our 8-acre property in Southeast Denton for the Habitat Village, where 35 homes will be built for local families in need. This week when removing an old shack from the property, numerous honeybees and their hives were found inside! Out of respect for the bees, Habitat Construction Manager Ken Reedy and Brad Robason from Brad's Trucking called in beekeeper, Bill Carter, to safely remove the honeybees and take them to a better home. Thank you, Mr. Carter!

We are honored to announce that the late Mrs. Lynn Anderson Hagler left a generous portion of her estate to Habitat for Humanity of Denton County, which we received earlier this month. Mrs. Hagler had been a Habitat supporter for many years and volunteered through the Master Gardeners Association to landscape several of our homes, and she will be deeply missed. We are proud that her legacy will live on through Habitat's mission.

We had the privilege of speaking with her sister, Ms. Carol Vincent, about Mrs. Hagler's interest in Habitat and her compassion for others, especially those less fortunate. Mrs. Hagler worked in the public schools as a teacher, teaching both music and elementary education, and later received a Master's degree from University of North Texas in English. She also worked at the Denton Public Library and was an adjunct professor at a nearby community college. Due to her work in education, she was very much aware of how important a home was for children, as well as adults. Ms. Vincent told us that "the pride of owning a home and knowing it's yours and would be yours for the rest of your life was extremely important to Mrs. Hagler."

We are moved by families like this who care so deeply about our mission of putting God's love into action by building homes, communities and hope. We extend our deepest sympathies to Mrs. Hagler's family during this time.

Habitat for Humanity of Denton County was a proud sponsor of the Denton Juneteenth Celebration at Fred Moore Park on Saturday, June 19. Thanks to all who came out to support and visited our booth. We had a great day spreading awareness of Habitat's important mission and getting to know other awesome organizations in our community!

Habitat for Humanity of Denton County was selected to receive a $200 donation through the AmericanTrucks Positive Payload Program! We will also be entered into a draw for a one-time grant award of $2,000 at the end of this year.

The Positive Payload Program is designed to benefit non-profit charitable organizations who use and rely on pickup trucks and pickup truck accessories to better their community. Habitat uses trucks every single day for tools needed on our build site and for ReStore donation pick-ups. We are so grateful for AmericanTrucks Positive Payload Program’s support of our mission!
