WERD Book Study: The Sum of Us by Heather McGee
CSTP is excited to announce author and CRE facilitator Dr. Adeyemi Stembridge will be facilitating the fall Washington Educators Read and Discuss book study of The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone by Heather McGhee. This opportunity is open to all Washington paraeducators, teachers, principals, administrators, and ESAs. Registration is free, and 13.5 clock hours will be available for purchase upon completion.

We have structured this opportunity so participants will meet with their small groups every other week to allow ample time for processing and reading the material. The meetings will take place from 4:30-6:00 PM on:
  • October 5th
  • October 19th
  • November 2nd
  • November 16th
  • December 14th

Apply Now for a Culturally Responsive Education in the Classroom Residency in Your School or District
Apply now to bring the Culturally Responsive Education (CRE) in the Classroom Residency to your school or district. This is a unique and intensive professional development experience in which your team will receive coaching, facilitation and technical assistance from Dr. Adeyemi Stembridge, author of Culturally Responsive Education in the Classroom and his longtime colleague and CRE Coach, Vickie Onodera.
 
Residencies are designed based on the need of the educators and their students, and will include 4-6 days of direct technical assistance as well as a combination of in-person and virtual sessions and coaching. The model and schedule will be determined once your team is selected and approved. We anticipate selecting up to 16 schools or districts for this one of a kind professional development training.
 
Statewide Professional Growth Plan PLC
Want to make new connections as an educator, earn 25 clock hours and a $300 stipend?

CSTP has received a grant from the Professional Educator Standards Board to create a PLC of educators focused on working on and completing Professional Growth Plans (PGPs) focused around the LIFT Framework during the 2021-2022 school year.

Those selected will use the newly released LIFT Framework to:

  • Reflect on your professional practice and learning communities
  • Build and practice skills to work effectively with other educators and peers
  • Examine learner variability and make connections with social and emotional learning, culturally responsive teaching, and inclusive instruction.
  • Explore how digital learning and teaching can support innovative instruction

What you need to know:

  • The learning cohort of 20-24 educators will begin in Fall 2021 and finish in May 2022
  • Any Washington State educator is eligible to participate (paraeducators, certificated educators, administrators and ESA)
  • You must sign up with another educator from your school or district and work together to complete the activities for the project (you do not have to teach the same grade or subject to work together)
  • You will use the PESB Professional Growth Plan program to earn credits and document your work and effort
  • Applications are due by September 15, 2021. Applicants will be notified of their application status by September 30, 2021.

Partner with CSTP to Offer Clock Hours at Your Next Online Training
Are you running a course, professional development or book study and want to offer Washington State clock hours? CSTP is an approved Washington State clock hour provider and can approve your courses for clock hours. It is free for the course instructor to apply for the course with course participants paying a nominal fee for clock hours.

National Board Updates
CSTP National Board Component Support
CSTP is solidifying the schedule for National Board Component Support for the 2021-2022 school year with our facilitators. We anticipate offering support virtually and in-person for Components 1, 2, 3 and 4. If you are interested in being notified when our program registration opens, please sign-up here.
National Board Candidate Informational Sessions
OSPI will be hosting free informational sessions open to all Washington educators looking to begin or resume their National Board journey. They will host three modules on September 18, 2021 starting at 9:00 AM covering: 1. Considering National Board Certification and Overview, 2. The Certification Process, and 3. Candidate Supports and Resources. Register now or contact Steven Mueller for more information.

Inclusionary Practices
Free WEA Inclusionary Practices Trainings
WEA is offering several synchronous courses supporting inclusionary practices for Washington educators throughout the 2021-2022 school year. All courses are free and offer clock hours. Upcoming courses include:

Restorative Practices & Equity With Collaborative Learning Solutions 
Collaborative Learning Solutions is a member of the statewide professional development cadre for the Inclusionary Practices Project with OSPI. They are offering free training, resources and supports to educators, students and schools to create conditions for all learners focused on restorative practices and equity emphasizing the educational and social-emotional needs of all students. The training they are offering is comprised of distinctive targets including Restorative Practices, Community of Equity and Inclusive Practices, and Restorative Justice Centers. The target audiences for their trainings are district leaders, school leaders, teachers, counselors, parents and students. Learn more and register.

Grant from State Board of Education to Support Mastery-Based Learning

Are you interested in implementing mastery-based learning (also known as competency-based education) in your school or district? The state legislature has provided funding to the State Board of Education (SBE) to support the implementation of mastery-based learning (MBL) in school district demonstration sites. They anticipate selecting 20-25 schools for this unique opportunity. Notice of intent to apply is due by September 28.

Your Feedback is Requested on Educator Equity Standards
The Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) is seeking community feedback as they review and revise Washington’s current educator standards to ensure the alignment of those standards with cultural competency, diversity, equity, and inclusion (CCDEI) practices. Educators can provide feedback in this survey or participate in a live feedback session.

Teacher Tech Resources
Clock Hours Available for Completion of Teacher Tech Project's Instructional Design Modules
On December 31, 2020 CSTP added four new modules designed by educators for educators in grades K-12. Badges and clock hours are available for those completing any of the 20 available asynchronous modules in the Teacher Tech Project. Each completed module is worth one clock hour.
