RX-7 first generation “The purest incarnation of the three generations”

“Even though it was inspired by the British Lotus design of 1967, the first RX-7 carries its own design DNA that would become the model’s trademark silhouette for years to come. There’s that long hood, the curved glass rear hatch, and a lightness to the proportions that suggest this car is accessible and fun.

The twin-rotor rotary engine was mounted just behind the front axle, coining the phrase “front mid-engined.” This imbued the RX-7 with near-perfect 50/50 front/rear weight balance and a low center of gravity, making the car handle more sweetly and faithfully. Allied to this balance were rear drive and a manual gearbox, plus compact dimensions so it was a true driver’s car. A 1978 road test in Motor Trend described the styling as “slippery looking, pleasing to the eye,” and noted the very low drag coefficient (0.36), which rises only when pop-up headlights—another trademark RX-7 feature—are raised.” – Inside Mazda

The Mazda RX-7 was Mazda’s first sports car, based on their unique rotary engine. Finished in Stardust Blue Metallic with a black interior and tilt/removable sunroof, this one owner car is a relatively low mileage and well maintained fine example of the first generation RX-7.

You wouldn’t think a car with just 101 hp to play with would be able to get out of its own way. But helped by its meager 2,500 lb. curb weight, it manages to sprint easily up through its five gears to cruising speed and keep pace with traffic, with the unique rotary exhaust sound, and balanced handling in the curves.

Disclosures: The Carfax report (available on request) indicates an accident in 2001: “very minor damage (front), it hit an animal”. Actually, a bike fell on it in the garage, and the body shop repair receipt for refinishing the hood, fender, etc. is included.

It comes with a full car cover, its sunroof protective bag, a front end “bra” protector, owner’s manual, two workshop manuals, wiring diagram, spare parts, and many records and receipts going back to 1982 are included. Not driven in winter, it has no visible body rust, and has been well maintained and cared for by its only owners.
