Tis the Season of Giving here at Nevins Library
Check out these opportunities to give back

The Nevins library is partnering with various charitable agencies to assist in the collections for families and children in need this season as well as year round.

Emmaus House Giving Tree: The giving tree in the Children's room this year is to benefit homeless children in the Merrimack Valley.  Emmaus House has served thousands of children since 1985 and this year we are collecting to ensure that these children  have a happy holiday by providing specific gifts for needy children.  Just drop by the Children's room and choose a wish item off the tree, purchase that item and return it to the department.  We'll wrap and deliver the parcel and you'll be entered to win a special prize raffle just for doing a great thing.

Nevins Home Tree: Just like last year, we'll have a tree for residents of the Nevins Home, to make their holiday just a little more personal this year.  Check out the tree near the main desk, pick a tag and purchase the gift on the tag.  You will be providing a special gift for a resident of the home, just what they need.  Purchase the item and return it to the main desk and they will be collected and distributed to the recipients on the holiday.  Thanks to     for his great work organizing this. Friday Food Backpack Project:  Nevins is pleased to be a drop off point for the back pack program that provides food for students who receive subsidized lunch and breakfast through the school system.  These non perishable food items may be dropped off here and are collected to be distributed discreetly to the students on Fridays in their backpacks to ensure they get some nutritious food over the weekend.
Barnes and Noble Book Fair

Join us at the Barnes and Noble in Salem to do some holiday shopping and help out the Friends of the Nevins Library at the same time.  The Friends will receive a percentage of all sales accompanied by a coupon presented at time of purchase. Coupons are available at the Main desk or you can print one off yourself below.  In addition you can have your gifts wrapped by our own staff members and the kids can listen to a story read by our children's librarians.  If you can't make it that day, online sales can be credited up until Dec. 6.

Smart911 Assistance Available for Disabled
December 8 2018 1-4pm

Smart911 is a system whereby first responders are made aware of any particular issues at an address which is calling for assistance.  This might be such things as allergies to medication, pre-existing conditions,or disability or mobility issues.  All information is optional and you can choose what details you would like to include.

The Commission on Disability will hold a Help session at the library, up in the Reference area,  to assist those with physical challenges to enter their information into the Smart911 system for the Methuen Police department.  While volunteers are unable to enter information directly they will assist in navigating the site and providing information to those in need of it.  Participants are encouraged to bring someone who is able to do the data entry with them to these help sessions.
