Volunteer to Help with the Spaghetti Dinner
For 63 years, this traditional dinner has needed all hands on deck for its wacky, fun success. As we get closer to “normal”, we are reaching out to our community for help. Unlike past years, this year, we need help assembling all the food donations into 200 to-go meal kits on February 12th. Later that day, we need help distributing the kits to families for pick up from 11-2 pm. Both are fun opportunities to meet other parents and families in the program. Last, but never least, we are recreating our beloved bake sales and morphing it into a “Dash over for a Dessert” add on, and we need freshly baked desserts or purchased fresh baked items ready for pick up.
You can sign up for any of these things here:
Sign Up to Bake or Purchase a Dessert
Donate wine for the “Grab a bag” wine add on. You can drop off at the Goodwill event Jan. 22 (in the north parking lot of BHS off 67th) or make arrangements with Kris Bulson to get it picked up. We are hoping for about 60 bottles of wine (red preferred) in all price ranges over $10/bottle. Contact Kris Bulson.

Band
Spaghetti Dinner
Preparation for Spaghetti Dinner is underway and students are learning about a variety of Motown, and Motown-adjacent, artists. As we move past Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday and observe African Heritage Month, we are excited to be studying the music of so many accomplished Black artists.
Jazz Band
Jazz Bands are looking forward to and the Bainbridge High School Puget Sound Jazz Festival in May! Focusing on improvisatory groups, the Jazz Combos and Brass Band will have an opportunity to perform and compete.
Pizza and Pep Band on Feb. 3
Pizza and Pep will look a little different this year. This event has helped welcome 8th graders planning to attend BHS and join band. To reduce numbers and allow for more distance, only Wind Ensemble will participate in this event. They will play a few pep band/marching band songs with the 8th graders and enjoy some pizza. We invite students from all the feeder schools--Whitman, McClure, Salmon Bay, Hamilton, Robert Eagle Staff, and Blaine. Should band members know other incoming 8th graders, we encourage families to share their great experiences with incoming families and to help answer any questions about the program. Mr Gillespie also intends to visit each of the feeder schools in the coming months as well.

Choir
Choir T-Shirts
T-Shirts have been ordered! They will be coming in the next few weeks and will be distributed at that time.
Motown
Choir Students are immersed in learning about the history of Motown. Motown is an upbeat, often pop-influenced style of rhythm and blues by black vocalists and groups that started in Detroit. Students are learning music by The Supremes, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and other amazing artists. Motown is an important part of Black history. Throughout January and February, as we observe the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 's birthday, Black History Month, and the Black Lives Matter movement, we are thrilled to study the work of so many incredibly accomplished Black artists. In studying the influence that Motown had on music in our culture, the students gain perspective into how powerfully music affects our lives.
Solo and Ensemble
Our Regional Solo and Ensemble Festival is March 5 at Seattle Pacific University. Interested students can sign up to perform a solo, duet, or other small ensemble for an adjudicator who will provide feedback and scoring. This is a competitive festival, with the winner from each category advancing to the state competition at Central Washington University in late April. More information to follow!
