2021 SNAPSHOT: A YEAR IN REVIEW

Largest purchase in ULC’s history: former Johnson & Wales Campus (JWU) in partnership with Denver Public Schools and Denver Housing Authority in Denver’s Park Hill neighborhood. Preservation of education, future affordable housing, and community-serving space. East campus is held in ULC’s Community Land Trust (CLT) for permanent affordability.
The Center for African American Health purchased the Hudson at the Holly building in Northeast Park Hill under ULC’s CLT.
Sheridan Station Apartments opened in the Villa Park neighborhood with 133 units of permanently affordable housing adjacent to transit.
Elevation Community Land Trust (ECLT) in partnership with ULC opened La Tela, 92 permanently affordable for-sale condos in the Santa Fe Arts District.
ULC purchased the Citywide Banks Building on the East Colfax Corridor. ULC will preserve the building for nonprofit office space and will develop future affordable housing. Land is held in ULC’s CLT.

Park Hill Campus (formerly JWU) is formed through partnership with Denver Public Schools/Denver School of the Arts, Denver Housing Authority, Archway Communities, Kitchen Network/BUCU West, and St. Elizabeth’s School.
Launched Impact East Colfax with The Fax Partnership. Two steering committees created to guide equitable development along the East Colfax Corridor in Aurora and Denver.
ULC’s internal environmental sustainability team engaged Lotus Engineering & Sustainability to support our work.
Signed Memorandum of Understanding with Mental Health Center of Denver (MHCD), Brinshore, and NEWSED to conduct preliminary market analysis and added The Morrison Group, Studio Completiva, and Dimension Strategies to facilitate Villa Park community engagement for Sheridan Complex.
Held Park Hill Campus Block Party with Denver School of the Arts Foundation and campus partners with more than 1,000 people in attendance.
Received prestigious Eagle Award from Housing Colorado for Walnut Flats Development in partnership with Medici Communities.
Convened Advisory Committee meetings with Globeville Elyria-Swansea (GES) Community Benefits Agreement stakeholders.

ULC officially ended its status as a supporting organization of The Denver Foundation.
ULC is grateful to have received funding from The Anschutz Foundation, Colorado Health Foundation, Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, Colorado Trust, Energy Outreach Colorado, FirstBank, Gary Community Ventures, Gates Family Foundation, Kenneth King Foundation, MidFirst Bank, Northern Trust, and Rose Community Foundation.
More than $55 million in real estate was purchased using the Metro Denver Impact Facility (MDIF).

ULC, in partnership with The Denver Foundation, issued three low-interest loans to Black-led and Black-serving nonprofits through the Black Resilience in Colorado Loan Fund (BRIC).
Engaged The Equity Project to help advance ULC’s internal/external efforts to become a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable organization.

Supported HB21-1117 Transformational Housing Bill.
Aaron Miripol served on Transformational Affordable Housing Task Force Subpanel for State of Colorado.
Supported passage of Denver Ballot Measures 2B (Denver Housing & Sheltering System Bonds) and 2C (Denver Transportation and Mobility System Bond) and opposed 2F (Proposal to repeal the group living ordinance).
Erin Clark served on the affordable housing advisory committee to Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper and the City of Denver’s Expanding Housing Affordability Project.
Aaron Martinez serves on the Denver Sustainability Advisory Council, The Colorado Commission on Low-income Energy Assistance, and The Energize Denver Taskforce.
Advocacy work with Neighborhood Development Collaborative, Mile High Connects, East Colfax Housing Workgroup, and Commerce City Community Campus (C4).

ULC expanded to East Colfax Corridor - Citywide Banks Building, South Park Hill - Park Hill Campus
ULC also provided technical assistance to NeighborWorks in Pueblo, Colorado.
