Students were asked to create a taxi art design representing "Greater Reno-Sparks region and Northern Nevada as a great place to live, work and play." The first-place winning designs from elementary, middle school, and high school categories were revealed on Reno-Sparks Cab Company taxis at the event and will be displayed for a year.
The nine classrooms with first, second, and third place designs, received $500 for art supplies. The entries were submitted by students from Brown Elementary School, Hunsberger Elementary School, Roy Gomm Elementary School, Dilworth Middle School, Desert Skies Middle School, Damonte Ranch High School, and North Valleys High School.
Congratulations to all the students who participated in this year’s competition and a special recognition to the following first place winning schools and student artists. (Click here to see the six runners-up winners.)
The taxi art design entries were selected by a panel of judges from The EDAWN Foundation and the Arts community for their originality, creativity, and message highlighting why Northern Nevada Is a great place to live, work and play. Students, teachers, family members and community guests attended the press conference award ceremony, held at the Washoe County School District Administration building in Reno.
“We are so thankful to our partners at the EDAWN Foundation for their commitment to arts education and for celebrating our incredibly talented students,” said WCSD Superintendent Susan Enfield. “I am thrilled that their artwork will be celebrated and seen throughout the Northern Nevada region.”
"Every year we get more and more talent from students throughout our region," said Beth Macmillan, Executive Director, Artown. "This year, the committee was really challenged and went through a thoughtful process to find the pieces of art that both reflect the theme and showcase best on a taxi cab."
"By engaging with our talented local students to design the art for the taxis, we are not only showcasing their artistic abilities but also promoting the unique character of our community," said Mike Kazmierski, President and CEO of EDAWN. "This project truly represents the collaborative spirit and ingenuity that makes Reno-Sparks such a dynamic place to live and do business."
