Cumming PD Presents Concert Series Benefiting Creative Enterprises-Forsyth |
Come out to the Cumming City Center Lou Sobh Amphitheater on Aug. 25th and Sept. 1st from 7 to 10 p.m. for two great nights of music in support of a great cause! The Cumming Police Department presents the Summer in the City Concert Series benefiting Creative Enterprises-Forsyth.
Junior's Farm Band (Aug. 25th concert) brings great Classic and Southern Rock hits from the likes of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Grand Funk Railroad, Tom Petty, ZZ Top, Journey, Foreigner, Queen and many others, while Back N Black (Sept. 1st concert) brings all the hits from Australian rockers AC/DC!
Both shows offer free parking and free admission, but donations will be accepted for Creative Enterprises-Forsyth, a non-profit organization that works with special needs adults to help them develop life and employment skills through a variety of programs.
Creative Enterprises-Forsyth is located on Pilgrim Mill Road in the building that previously housed the City of Cumming Recreation Department. Creative is currently in the midst of building fund drive, with a goal of $1 million that will be used to construct a new building at the current site. All funds raised through the Summer in the City Concert Series will go toward the building fund. The new building will allow Creative Enterprises-Forsyth to expand its capacity from 90 clients to 200, go from seven classrooms to 16, add an art sensory room, and create an on-site production facility for clients to have employment opportunities while working under direct supervision of job coaches. Thank you Cumming Police Department for organizing this wonderful fundraiser for this great local cause!

Cumming City Center Fire Museum to Honor Local Firefighters and History |
| Mayor Troy Brumbalow and Forsyth County Fire Chief Barry Head are working together to bring a Fire Museum, which will honor the history of fire protection services in both the City of Cumming and Forsyth County, to the Cumming City Center. On Friday, July 14th, the City of Cumming's vintage 1980's fire engine was relocated to the museum space, which is next door to Avenue of the Oaks and Myth and Legend Coffee Shop (which will be opening soon). Over the next few months, additional items that highlight firefighting history and honor fallen local firefighters will be added to the space. The museum will be primarily accessed through the coffee shop, but during some weekends and special events, the building's bay door will be open to allow direct access to the museum from the sidewalk. Be sure to follow @cummingcitycenter on Facebook and Instagram for updates about the Fire Museum. (Above, Mayor Brumbalow poses with Jenni Smith, owner of SliceAbility, far right, and some of her crew members on July 14th after the City's Fire Engine was moved into the space.)

Gene Hansard Receives "Key to City" Recognition |

In other business during the July Regular Meeting (July Work Session was cancelled due to the July 4th holday), City Council took the following actions:
- Approved two requests from the Forsyth County Board of Registrations and Elections: 1. To allow the Board to hold advanced voting for the 2023 Municipal Election at their office, 1201 Sawnee Drive, rather than at City Hall. (Election Day voting on Nov. 8, 2023 will still take place at City Hall.) 2. To relocate the Cumming precinct polling place from City Hall to the Cumming Recreation and Parks Facility on Pilgrim Mill Road beginning in 2024 due to more parking, better space, and no stairs or elevators at the Parks Facility.
- Approved two alcoholic beverage licenses for Cumming City Center businesses: Crooked Culture Brewery at 421 Vision Drive, and Los Rios Cantina at 440 Vision Drive. Crooked Culture's license is for manufacture and sale of malt beverages for consumption on the premises, and Los Rios Cantina's license is for sale of distilled spirts, malt beverages and wine for consumption on the premises.
- Approved a request to rezone approximately 1.45 acres on Sanders Road from from Office Commercial Multi-Story (OCMS) to Single-Family Residential. The property, which contains a single-family residence, was inadvertently rezoned to OCMS in 2003 as part of a city-wide rezoning. This City Council vote corrects that error.
- Approved the low proposal from Vertical Earth for resurfacing of Atlanta Road and East Main Street through a yearly grant awarded by the Georgia Department of Transportation as part of its Local Maintenance Grant Program.
- Approved a request from Cumming Utilities to reject all bids for the second phase of the Bethelview Advanced Water Reclamation Facility's sludge dryer project because all received bids came in over the budgeted amount for the project, which is being funded by a loan from GEFA.
