During the season of Advent we revisit one of our unique traditions: the Red Envelope Special Offering. The tradition of the Red Envelope goes back to the ministry of Rev. Dr. Albert Pennybacker, back in the 1980’s. Legend has it that it was just a few days before Christmas and a gentleman came to the church and wanted to visit the Senior Minister. It just so happened that it was a very busy day and the man patiently waited as Dr. Pennybacker worked through his scheduled appointments. When it was his turn to visit he produced a red envelope which contained an exceptionally generous gift to the church. All were amazed by the man’s persistence, patience, and generosity.
In the spirit and tradition of the Red Envelope, you are invited to prayerfully consider a special gift to your church this year as a gesture of love and gratitude, large or small. Your generous gift will enable us to celebrate Christmas with a sense of completion for this incredible year gone by and an eye toward the incredible things we will do together in the coming days.
