Yesterday was my day off, and after my dentist appointment I used the rain as an excuse to curl up on the screen porch under a blanket and read all day. I was able to grab a couple of novels from Wisconsin's Digital Library and enjoy my new eReader. (I'm not going to tell you which titles this time -- everyone needs to balance their reading with a few trashy romance novels once in a while, after all!) What a joy it is to be able to relax, listen to the rain, and get out of my head and into someone else's for a little while.
I hope you're making some time for reading this summer... and if you're recording your reading on our Beanstack app or tracking with a paper reading log, you could be reading on a new eReader, too! Adults who sign up for our summer reading program will receive one entry to win a new Kindle for each book you track. Kids can win a backpack full of solar science goodies! More details are on our website.
For those times when you do want to get out of the house, we have some great programs coming up in the next couple of weeks. Read on for more info, and keep on reading!

Katharine Wright and those Flyboys from Dayton
Behind the genius of the Wright brothers, Wilbur and Orville, was their beloved and devoted sister, Katharine. She may be overlooked by history, but she was an integral variable in the equation that solved the mystery of controlled flight.
Join the Mercer Public Library to welcome Jessica Michna back in another riveting historical performance as she presents “Katharine Wright and Those Flyboys from Dayton” THIS Sunday, July 23, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. The program is free and open to all ages, thanks to support from our Friends!

Jeff Nania, author of "Northern Lakes Mystery" series
Ever since the first book in the Northern Lakes Mystery series, Figure Eight, came out in 2019 or so, readers have been asking us, "When are you getting Jeff Nania to come to the library?" We're happy to finally have an answer to that question: Monday, July 31 at 2:00 p.m.
Award-winning author Nania draws upon a wealth of experience in his bestselling Northern Lakes Mystery series. The most recent title in the series, Musky Run, was published in 2023 and was recognized by the Independent Publisher Book Awards as the Great Lakes Best Regional Fiction Gold Winner.
