The Importance of Healthy Relationships

Holiday season is usually a time that we spend with loved ones. Unfortunately, this year we are encouraged to limit our contact with each other. It is important to remember that strong bonds are typically built through tough times, common experiences and shared memories. Remember that having someone we can trust and lean on for guidance and friendly counsel is essential to maintaining our emotional health. Although we cannot gather in large crowds, we want to encourage you to find creative ways to celebrate the holidays with loved ones. Create a family game night, join a virtual community gathering, or revisit the old school custom of making a phone call. Make the best of the 2020 winter holidays.

In early 2018, California’s total homeless population was the largest in our nation and listed at 129,972. In May 2019, that number has now seen the largest decrease of -1,560 (about 1% reduction). The state of California also saw the largest decrease of homeless veterans of -600 (about 5% reduction).

Although, we all cannot be responsible for anyone else’s circumstances, their survival depends on the knowledge and accessibility of resources. According to United Nations Sustainable Development, “..inequality persists and large disparities remain regarding access to health and education services and other assets.

Stay Safe While Giving Thanks

As cases continue to increase rapidly across the United States, the safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving is to celebrate at home with the people you live with. Some ways where you can make Thanksgiving safe is by wearing a mask, staying at least 6 feet away of people who do not live with you, and by washing your hands.

Here are some amazing Thanksgiving Activities:

Watch Television and host games with people in your household, shopping,
Host a virtual Thanksgiving meal with friends and family who don’t live with you
Safely prepare traditional dishes and deliver them to family and neighbors in a way that does not involve contact with others (for example, leave them on the porch)
Participate in a gratitude activity, like writing down things you are grateful for and sharing with your friends and family.
