New Year's Jammin' Eve
Offers Great Food, Music, Fun
New Year's Jammin' Eve is set for Friday, Dec. 31 at the Waverly Eagles and features two bands that offer a mix of pop, country, and bluegrass music.
The featured act - The Goodwin Brothers - includes lead singer Kenneth Chase Bush, a finalist during season five of American Idol. The group is from Lexington, Kentucky, and performs a mix of pop, country, and bluegrass music that has made them one of the Ohio Valley's hottest bands.
Following a catered dinner by longtime local restauranteur Lloyd Harmon that begins at 6 p.m., Bourbon Revival will kick off the music. This hard-driving band from Louisville, Kentucky, also performs songs from a range of genres with crowd-pleasing covers and original material.
"When Sam Karr and I began this New Year's Eve event a few years ago, I wanted to create a nice, professional event locally so people from the area didn't have to travel to Columbus or Cincinnati for a New Year's Eve experience," said Rick Greene, a Waverly resident and co-organizer of the SamJam Bluegrass Festival, which sponsors the event with the Waverly Eagles, where the event takes place. "It's a perfect event for a date with a great dinner, great bands, and a local DJ (Matt Snodgrass) who will help us ring in the new year."
Tickets are $80 and all bar proceeds benefit the Waverly Eagles.
"Rick and I make sure that our events have top-quality talent," Karr said. "We're really excited to bring The Goodwin Brothers and Bourbon Revival to Waverly. These aren't necessarily straight-away bluegrass bands, these are versatile bands with talented singers and musicians who will put on a really great show."
To purchase tickets, or for more information, check out the New Year's Jammin' Eve tab on the SamJam website at www.samjambluegrass.com or the festival's Facebook page at SamJam Bluegrass Festival.
Anyone who has questions or is interested in a VIP table for eight can contact Karr at (812) 699-0962 or Greene at (740) 547-9059.

Adena’s Coats For Kids
Warms Holidays for Area Children
More than 1,000 coats donated to school districts to distribute to students in need
The holiday season is often a favorite time of year for those able to wrap themselves in its comfort, warmth and joy.
For those with more limited means, however, the season also brings with it the return of bitter cold temperatures that make the warmth enjoyed by so many very hard to come by.
The Adena Health Foundation, in conjunction with the physicians, advanced practice providers and other caregivers throughout Adena Health System, recognizes the need that exists in our schools and communities and for roughly the last dozen years have sought to do something about it through the Coats for Kids program. Recently, more than 1,000 coats purchased and then donated by Adena caregivers were delivered to school districts across the region that had identified students in need of a winter coat...

Husted Announces TechCred Results for October
Next Application Period Opens January 3, 2022
Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted, Director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, today announced the results of the October round of TechCred, which will provide the opportunity for Ohioans to earn 2,997 tech-focused credentials.
The next TechCred application period opens Monday, January 3rd and closes Monday, January 31st at 3:00 p.m. Businesses with employees who have completed their TechCred training should submit proof of credential completion to receive reimbursement at TechCred.Ohio.gov.
“TechCred helps businesses of all sizes upskill current and prospective employees with the tech skills they need to compete in today’s economy,” said Lt. Governor Husted. “As Ohio continues to create jobs faster than we can fill them, it is important that TechCred adapts to the needs of employers. We are implementing updates to the program that will streamline the process for businesses, helping more Ohioans learn new skills that can lead to a higher wage.”
The October round of TechCred marked the eleventh round of the program. Yesterday, Lt. Governor Husted announced that 252 Ohio employers were approved for funding, resulting in Ohio employees earning up to 2,997 technology-focused credentials. Businesses of all sizes are utilizing the program, with 93 new employers joining the program for the first time this round.
“TechCred is helping Ohio businesses upskill their workforce,” said Lydia Mihalik, Director of the Ohio Department of Development. “These credentials will ensure Ohio has the talent to compete in today’s tech-driven economy.”
With the approvals announced today, a total of 1,615 Ohio employers have been approved for funding, supporting the earning of 32,269 tech-focused credentials by Ohio employees.
Starting with the January round, the following updates have been implemented to provide additional flexibility for businesses:
- Grant agreements will no longer be separate documents; they will be incorporated into the online application portal.
-
Training for approved credentials may start on or after the first day of the month immediately following the last application period. Training programs must still be completed in less than 12 months from the award date.
“The continued success of the TechCred program is a product of the continued need for the program,” said Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor Randy Gardner. “Having nearly 100 new employers join for this latest round speaks well for the future of the program, the economy, and Ohio’s workforce.”
