February 2021
Now, more than ever, the CCCIA is here to help.

Dear CCCIA Members:

Can you believe we are in February already? Our 50th Anniversary Builders’ Showcase of Homes awards dinner was a huge success and we had almost 100 home entry builders and other nominees in attendance. Photos of the event are on our website, www.cccia.org. Please join me in congratulating the winners and saying thank you to everyone who participated.
I also want to congratulate our member, John Gunter, on his new role as the Mayor of Cape Coral. Mayor Gunter has always been a strong supporter of the construction industry, and I know he will excel in his new role.

Please make note to attend the 10th annual, Catch the Vision — Tips, Trends & Forecasting. This virtual event is set for Tuesday, February 16th at 7 p.m. The event will stream on Cape TV and the Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral's You Tube Channel. Learn about what is new and upcoming in our beautiful city. Our own Executive Director Bill Johnson Jr, is one of the hosts of this event.

This month's Dinner Meeting speaker will be Mr. Ricardo Noguera, City of Cape Coral’s Economic Development Office, (EDO), Coordinator. Ricardo will give an update and overview of current and future development plans. There will be a Q&A. This is your opportunity to ask about projects you have seen or heard about and get answers directly for the people that oversee them.

The Cape Coral EDO reports single-family home sales in Lee County rose to 1,648 units in December 2020, an increase of 425 units (35 percent) from December 2019. Lee’s median price rose from $262,000 to $315,000 over the same period.

Please feel free to contact me with suggestions or ideas. We are all invested in the success of Cape Coral and the CCCIA. My contact info is below.
Best Regards,

How to Build Your Firm's Wealth
Finding profits & purpose in business ownership & other investments

Your business’s purpose is not to build buildings, install pipe, hang drywall, pour concrete, erect steel or move dirt. You are in business to make a profit, build equity, seek wealth-building opportunities, and enjoy the benefits of owning a successful business.
After 20 years as a commercial general contractor, I finally realized why I was in business. Year after year, I worked hard to scrape out a 2% to 5% pre-tax net profit, which didn’t leave much after taxes, bonuses, etc. While my company did most of the work, our customers made most of the money. Why? Because I was in the contracting business and my customers were in the wealth-building business.

What Business Are You In?

The purpose of your construction company is not to build projects for other people. The purpose of your company is to deliver results the owners want. Owners want their company to make significant profits, which will build wealth, grow equity, generate passive income opportunities, and, therefore, deliver financial freedom.

CCCIA February Update

Members & Friends,

The pace of business continues to accelerate as we move into February. Fun Fact: Since October of 2020 the city of Cape Coral has issued over 1277 Single Family Home permits! If this trend continues, fiscal 2021 will be one of biggest, if not THE biggest year for new home starts. An increase this large has resulted in product constraints and increased costs. Some basic items like ply-wood are at an all time high. Appliances are scarce and some items that were one price last year have tripled in cost, that is if you can get them at all. Our builder members have been thinking outside the box to keep their costs down and work on delivering a product to the end user without a huge increase in cost and time. The City is working with the CCCIA to bring on additional staff to deal with the increased permit volume. We have an item on the February council agenda to address additional staffing at the Building Department needed to alleviate delays in key areas where they too are seeing backups.

Sunday, February 7th was the final day of the 2021 CCCIA Builders Showcase of Homes. I want to thank all participating builders and advertisers that made this years' Showcase one for the record books. We overcame a great hurdle in putting this event on in 2021. COVID almost cancelled the showcase and quite a few times I found myself wondering, "How are we going to do this?!" I am proud to represent some of the most resilient, out the box, thinkers in this business. We took a unified plan and put safety first. We were able to deliver a product to the community that was safe and allowed our Builders to showcase their greatest assets, their homes. This is my 7th year putting on this event and I must say it was my favorite. To see how we all came together, is a testament to our industry.

As always, if you know of anyone who could benefit from membership in the CCCIA we gladly welcome the referral. We have been the watchdog for the industry for the last 50 years and have accomplished much for our members in that time. We are stronger in numbers! We could not do what we do without your support. Send your referrals to the all new www.cccia.org for online membership applications.

In closing, if you have not already signed up, we have a great dinner meeting lined up for this Thursday, February, 11th at the Palmetto Pine Country Club. Our Economic Development Manager Ricardo Noguera will give us an update on what is going on around town according to the Cape Coral EDO. Always a great subject with a lively Q&A. Sign up today at www.cccia.org

Stay safe and healthy.
Respectfully,

Bill Johnson, Jr, IOM
