TOY JOY IS COMING SOON!

The Toy Joy Team is looking forward to the event on November 13 and 14! We have just under 300 families and a little over 900 children registered to receive gifts. Volunteers are needed for the gift pick-up times each afternoon and a few people will be needed the morning of the 13th to finalize the setup. We ask that all adult volunteers be fully vaccinated and masks will be required for guests and all volunteers both inside and outside. There will be assignments available in the Fellowship Hall and in the back parking lot. For our FBC youth who may not yet be fully vaccinated, we welcome your help as "reindeer," working in the parking lot to deliver the gifts to our guests as they wait in their cars. If you have questions, email Anne Cooke. Please sign-up here to volunteer!

As a reminder, we are still in need of volunteers for this Friday and Saturday, November 5 and 6. Since we are just two weeks away from the actual event, we will be filling the requests for toys that have come into our online store and packing them for pickup by our guests. We will have two shifts for Friday: 9am-12pm and 1-4pm, and one shift for Saturday:1-4pm. For the safety of all our volunteers, masks will be required and we ask that you only volunteer if you have been fully vaccinated. Please use this link to sign-up.

ADULT CENTERPOINT
(IN-PERSON & ZOOM)

The Adult Ministries Council has been working on a set of programs for this fall with the theme Celebrating Our Heritage with a View to the Future. Centerpoint will meet each week from 6:15-7:15pm in the fellowship hall, and is also available via zoom for those who would rather join us virtually. See the article below!

November 3 - Join us as we prepare for Toy Joy shopping! There will be opportunities for sit-down work in the fellowship hall as well as working in three rooms getting them set up with toys and books for shopping. Please note that this is a hands-on, in-person mission project, so there will not be a Zoom option. We would encourage those at home to write a note to someone on our prayer list!
November 10 - Dream Team community forum. Our last community forum went so well that we felt it was worth expanding our network to hear from more local leaders. Make plans to come and hear from our local community leaders from William Peace University, South East Raleigh Promise, The Flourish Market, and the Wake County Public School System.

AAWC THANKSGIVING PREORDERS

And Also With 'Cue is now accepting preorders for Thanksgiving! Skip the long lines at the grocery store, countless hours in the kitchen, and let David With cook for you! All preorders are available on their website, where you can select everything from Boston butt, brisket, ham, turkey, all smoked to perfection. This year, they're including sides and a homemade dessert. You may pick up your order on Wednesday, November 24, from 10am-2pm in the church parking lot.
NOVEMBER MISSION PROJECT

For the month of November, we will be collecting food for the Raleigh branch of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC. The Raleigh branch serves the following counties: Duplin, Franklin, Harnett, Halifax, Johnston, Nash, Sampson, Wake, Warren, and Wayne. There are almost 250,000 people currently facing hunger in these counties and that number includes over 81,000 children and almost 70,000 senior adults. During these times of economic instability, we can help families with this need. Your contributions may be placed in the marked drawer of the Lewis Lobby cabinet starting November 1.

We'll be collecting the following four items:
• Granola bars
• Cereal
• Juice boxes
• Canned meat/fish
HONOR A LOVED ONE DURING THE HOLIDAYS

Our Sanctuary is so lovely during Advent and Christmas when it is decorated with candles, fresh flowers, and greenery. This holiday “dress” transformation will certainly be different this year. However, we have determined a way for our church family to be a part of safely adding the elements that bring us such joy during the season. Watch for future issues of the Rose Window Weekly to learn more about our virtual Hanging of the Greens and how you can participate. Once again, you are invited to honor a loved one by making a donation toward the decorations for the service. With $15 for each honorific or memorial gift, all monies will help defray the cost of the trees, wreaths, fresh flowers, and greenery for the service. An insert in the December 12 worship order will list the names of all for whom gifts were given. Please submit your request here. Checks or electronic payments should be received no later than Friday, December 3. Forms are also available in Sunday School boxes. Mail checks to: Financial Administrator, 99 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh, NC 27603; please write “Holiday Greenery” on the memo line.
CITY OF OAKS MARATHON

The City of Oaks Marathon should cause little or no difficulty for travel to FBC on Sunday morning, November 7. The good news is all downtown streets will reopen by 8:30am. The main obstacle will be the closure of Glenwood Ave from Tucker Street to Morgan Street until 3pm.  You should be able to travel south on Glenwood Ave, turn left on Peace Street and then right on Halifax/Salisbury and flow into Salisbury Street to the church.  From the south there may be a few instances of minor rerouting. There will be some street closures in west Raleigh (around Hillsborough Street and Cameron Village) and the Crabtree Valley area (affecting short sections of Blue Ridge Road, Crabtree Valley Avenue, and North Hills Drive). These closures may hinder travel in those areas prior to 9:30am and some even after worship. For a course map and additional information regarding how your neighborhood might be affected, visit the City of Oaks Marathon website.
ALL SAINTS DAY
NOVEMBER 7

For a number of years now, we have been celebrating All Saints Day on November 1 when it falls on a Sunday, and the first Sunday after November 1 when it does not. Though still relatively new to many Baptists, it is an ancient Christian tradition that dates back at least to the fifth century. In the Eastern Church, it began in the season of Easter and eventually moved to the season after Pentecost. In the Western Church, it moved to November 1 in 835 C.E.

The celebration began as a way of recognizing certain people, but today it points to the saintly status of all Christians – not to our perfection but to our experience of being shaped by God’s grace as revealed in Christ. All Saints Day also provides space to celebrate our great hope for eternal life. Thus, we include a prayerful remembrance of the church members we have lost over the past year and locate our very real grief in the context of eternal hope.

Since the Capitol Square churches have had to cancel the annual Holiday Service of Hope and Remembrance because of COVID-19, our All Saints remembrance takes on even greater significance this year. Though we will only read the names of church members who have died since last year’s All Saints Day, we will list the names of extended family members we have lost, remember their loved ones in our prayers, and celebrate their hope in eternity too. We invite you to make a special effort to attend or to tune into this service!
NOVEMBER 7 BABY SHOWER FOR THE REEDS

On November 7, all members of the FBC family are invited to a shower honoring Leah and Chad Reed as they anticipate the arrival of their baby boy, due the first week of December! This drive-through event will be hosted by some of Leah and Chad's many friends in the congregation. Hope to see you there!
