Hawaiʻi-Time-Zone-Friendly Film Screening And Discussion Short Course Opportunity

You Are Invited To Participate In A Free Film Analysis Short Course In The What School Could Be Global Online Community

Lab One, Tuesday, September 13th

3:30PM HT, 6:30PM PST, 9:30PM EDT

[Prerequisite: Please view Most Likely to Succeed in advance of of this short course.] LAB ONE: RISE: Voice of a New Generation: In this 90-minute lab, participants will see this 47-minute film for the first time. After Participants will then move into Zoom workgroups prompted by this essential question: What are the most important questions raised by RISE and the story of One Stone Lab School? We suggest that one topic for workgroups could be comparing RISE: Voice of a New Generation and Most Likely to Succeed through the lens of two films working to “move the needle” in the greater conversation about reimagining this thing we call "school." We will use the main Community activity feed to log questions, add comments and keep the conversation going. Group screenshots are encouraged! One Stone Lab School students will join the discussion.

Lab Two, Tuesday, September 20th

3:30PM HT, 6:30PM PST, 9:30PM EDT

LAB TWO: Two Films, Two Beginnings, Two Arguments, First Impressions: In this 75-minute session, participants will return to the opening sequences of both RISE: Voice of a New Generation and Most Likely to Succeed. Participants will view the first 15 minutes of Most Likely to Succeed first, then the first 10 minutes of RISE: Voice of a New Generation, second. Zoom workgroups will analyze the two filmmakers' (Jon Long and Greg Whiteley) approaches in relation to the stories each film set out to tell. In RISE: Voice of a New Generation, the first 10 minutes focuses on students determining their own pathways to learning. In Most Likely to Succeed, the first 15 minutes argues that the world is changing at hyper speed, therefore education must change. Workgroups will return to the main Zoom to report out their analysis to their fellow participants. One Stone Lab School students will join the discussion.

Lab Three, Tuesday, October 4th

3:30PM HT, 6:30PM PST, 9:30PM EDT

LAB Three: Disruption Day, Public Exhibition, Assessments and Reflections for Deeper Learning: In this 75-minute session, participants will watch the "disruption day" section of RISE: Voice of a New Generation and the public exhibition sequence in Most Likely to Succeed, as well as specific clips from both films that show students in their most reflective moments. Using these clips, we’ll explore the value of real-world learning, authentic audiences, and the extent to which both public offerings and private reflection support whole student growth and assessment. In small workgroups participants will discuss these clips and compare/contrast their effects on educator, parent and community audiences. Workgroups will return to the main Zoom to report out their analysis to their fellow participants. One Stone Lab School students will join the discussion.
