We were fortunate to have Jessica Dabney lead our cantorial search committee, which included representatives of many facets of our diverse, multi-generational congregation. After a thorough selection process, the choice was unanimous that Cantor Schloss is the perfect fit to be Temple Isaiah’s fourth official cantor, following in the footsteps of Cantors Nadell (z’l), Kent, and Coyot and will be a terrific collaborator to Rabbi Frimmer, Rabbi Klein Miles and Rabbi Cohen and will work with staff and leadership to strengthen the bonds of the entire community. With great gratitude, we list the search committee below.
If you missed the opportunity to hear Cantor Schloss during the selection process, you can listen to a sampling of his music here.
Cantor Schloss has a varied career in music as a classical singer both on the opera stage and in concert, as a teacher of voice and music theory, and as a choral conductor and music director. He began his journey into the world of Jewish music in 2000 as a singer and composer. His compositions combine traditional liturgy and modern poetry with musical elements of eastern European nusach and chazzanut, Israeli and Sephardic folk music, classical and twentieth century Reform repertoire and contemporary pop and jazz. His setting of Elohai N’tsor was published in Transcontinental Music’s Shabbat Anthology VIII.
