Bird's Eye View
Did you ever wonder what the seagulls see when they circle over your training session or your water test? Heidi Peterson used a drone to capture these two amazing videos of what the test looks like from above. Great perspective on how things look from a slightly different view!

Training Tips
While “summer” to some Newf owners conjures up images of rolling waves lapping at the shore while you and your Newfoundland practice rescue activities in the water, the reality of summer is that most of us do not have unlimited water access, enough people to train with, or it’s just too darn hot to be outside! So what can you do with your newf in the heat if you are not doing outside activities? These are just a few suggestions and resources for you to check out this summer to keep your Newf’s brains active and having fun in the heat:

(check out fetch and give!)
Indoor Skills training ideas - look at what you want to work on with your dog and bring it inside in small parts! Hitching and harnessing can be done in the TV room, backing up, heeling and recalls can be done in your hallway, go around can be done around a dining room chair, Turns, fronts, finishes, pivots, basic easy maneuvering in the garage, milk jug dragging the possibilities are endless when you think in small parts!
Total fitness - there are several great products and companies online that can help you maintain an easy regimen of fitness “games” that you can do in your house that build core strength, and maintain fitness. Search k-9 fitness in your browser and you will find lots of great resources on how you can build core strength in your living room.

And when you just want to cuddle on the couch with your newfs and a good book, there are tons of great dog training books, online training and obedience classes and tons of super You-Tube training videos available at a click of a mouse!

Stay cool, have fun and enjoy spending time with your best buds!
When It's Time To Take a Break
It is a good handler who knows the difference between when discipline and pressure can guide her dog to a joyful performance, and when pressure should be removed by sacrificing task success for the dog’s well-being.

Regional Club Test Comittees
Online Entry!
If you are planning on using online entry for your upcoming events, please notify Heidi Peterson (for water tests) or Karrie Cook (for draft tests) when you decide to go that route. They will work with you to get your event online.
Also, we are working to update this across all paperwork but please make sure that you are submitting digital copies of your premiums and digital MARKED catalogs when you send in your complete test records at the end of your tests.

Holding any seminars? Let us know about your regional working seminars so we can post them on the events calendar and help spread the word!

Judge's Corner
Virtual Judges Forum

Due to the ongoing concerns and unpredictability of the coronavirus causing the NCA to cancel the 2021 National, the WDC has determined that it is in the best interest of our NCA working judges to move forward with a judges forum to connect us virtually this year. We hope to have a program in place by early fall 2021 for draft and water judges to come together to discuss issues of importance at working events. Look for more information on these virtual meetings in the coming months.
Judging During COVID
Please continue to be mindful of continuing restrictions on travel and COVID restrictions for the area you may have accepted an assignment. Stay in good contact with your committee to advise them of any potential issues with travel from your end. Stay safe!
Thanks to the members of the Working Dog Committee for sharing the great photos in this issue. If you would like to share photos of working dogs at work (and play), please send them in - we'd love to see them! Make sure you have permission from the photographer for us to use the photos for publication.
