REFERENDUM PASSES!
First, thank you to everyone who took the time to cast a ballot, whether absentee or in-person, during the November 3rd election. We are grateful that the Marinette School District referendum passed, with 56% of voters approving of the Rightsizing Plan.

WHAT'S NEXT? How will this facilities project move forward?
There are two distinct phases to the building project: the design phase and the construction phase. Within each phase there are several milestones including, but not limited to financing, gathering staff and Board of Education input into the design, bidding, groundbreaking, and construction. The Rightsizing Plan provides additions at Merryman and Park Elementary Schools, with remodeling at the Middle and High Schools.

The District is working with Somerville Architects, from Green Bay, and C.D. Smith Construction, from Fond du Lac, as the construction manager. The Board of Education is finalizing their contracts and establishing timelines. The new construction is anticipated to be complete for the 2022-23 school year, so this is when the transition to two elementary schools will occur.

We will continue to keep the community and families updated as more details become available.

Have a COVID-Free Thanksgiving!

Enjoy your family, enjoy good food and enjoy some time to seek gratitude.  Have a safe holiday celebration and consider these Thanksgiving Tips and Tricks. (Click the embedded links for more information).

Also, please be kind and keep any sick children home over the next few weeks - this will help limit the spread between households as families find unique ways of gathering to celebrate the holidays.
COVID Kind means:
  • If you are sick: get tested & stay home.
  • If you test positive: let your close contacts know & stay home.
  • If you are a close contact: watch for symptoms & stay home.
  • If you are sick and a close contact: get tested & stay home.
With a vaccine on its way, and the year almost over, please remember to be COVID kind over the next few months. We have been in the throws of this pandemic and I am certain we can all agree that we would very much like it to end.  If we all do our best to practice the COVID guidelines, we can lower the transmission in our area even faster.

Please see the following for more information if you test positive or are a contact to someone who tests positive.
Attention MHS Students, Parents and Guardians!

In our desire to keep all Blended Learning students (Cohorts 1 & 2) in sync with the number of in-person learning contact days, we have made some changes to our district calendar in regards to Terms 1 and 2, as well as both Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday weeks. By making these slight changes we will be better able to serve our cohorting students with equal in-person contact time with teaching staff. Please see the changes listed below:

Move Term 1 end date from Thursday, November 5th to Friday, November 6th
Move Term 2 end date from Thursday, January 21st to Friday, January 22nd

Change cohort days during the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks:
Monday, November 23rd - Cohort 1 students only attend in-person
Tuesday, November 24th - Cohort 2 students only attend in-person
Monday, December 21st - Cohort 1 students only attend in-person
Tuesday, December 22nd - Cohort 2 students only attend in-person

By making the above holiday changes we are able to keep both cohorts on track with equal in-person days rather than Cohort 1 four days more.

Thanks for your flexibility and support of these changes!

Message From the Principal
Success! I am proud to announce that with your help and partnership, the revised schedule of our Wednesday Remote Learning/Intervention Day provided excellent results in students passing their classes and receiving credit! Your help in getting your child to class on Wednesdays resulted in students being able to get individual help, intervention if needed, and the ability to make up work and assessments they may have missed while being quarantined. We will continue to provide this opportunity every Wednesday as the teachers are very appreciative of the time they get to spend with students on this day.

We are also very happy that we have been able to continue teaching in a blended format. The mitigating practices we have in place have proven to be quite effective and allowed us to continue teaching in person without interruption. The students have been wonderful about following our procedures and at this time we do not plan on changing our format. With that being said, we have been preparing and have a plan to pivot to all virtual just in case.

Please enjoy this Thanksgiving holiday with your families. We are thankful for all of you!

Mrs. Braatz

Message From the Assistant Principal:
Hello Marine Families!

Happy Holidays to all of you during these challenging times. I don’t ever remember having to worry about family gatherings during this time so I hope all of you are staying safe! As we head into Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks, I wanted to remind families to remind your sons/daughters about staying current with Canvas and their work. We won’t have another Wednesday help-day until December 2nd, so it will be very important to check Canvas and their emails to see if they are missing anything. Parents/Guardians, I also want you to remember to check Skyward for grades and missing assignments from your sons/daughters. As a parent, I do this very often to help remind my son to stay current. Any gentle reminders go a long way!

Finally, I hope that everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas break. Please take time to do something fun for yourself and your family. The seasons can be about just spending time together and reminding each other about how much we are cared for. Enjoy yourselves and stay safe!
