The Platte County Democratic Central Committee met via Zoom on January 21st. Paula Willmarth gave a report on the State Party activities. New officers of the Missouri Democratic Party have been elected. They are:
Paula also suggested that we write letters to Chuck Schumer and Roy Blunt in support of expelling Josh Hawley for the role he played in the January 6th insurrection at the Capital. Trump’s second Impeachment trial will begin on February 9th.
The Committee discussed the importance of recruiting candidates for every office on the ballot in every election. Paula Willmarth cautioned that because the amount of support available from the Party to candidates is limited, we should be careful in what we promise to potential candidates.
Among potential candidates for the 2022 election cycles are: Lucas Kunce who has formed an exploratory committee for the 2022 Missouri Senate race and
Nicole Galloway incumbent for the Missouri State Auditor.
Guest Frank Nieto introduced himself as a potential candidate for Missouri’s 6th Congressional District seat currently held by Sam Graves. After a discussion of his interest and background, he said he would need to explore implications of such a run for his current employment as a contractor with a government agency.
Jamie Johnson is exploring the possibility of running for the Park Hill School District Board of Education. She said she has missed the deadline to file but is considering a write in campaign.

There followed a general discussion of upcoming elections and how the Committee hopes to work with potential candidates as they explore the possibility of running. It was decided to set up separate Zoom meetings for candidates who were serious enough to form an exploratory committee. Paula Willmarth volunteered to try to set up such a meeting for Lucas Kunce. That meeting was set up for February 2nd. There were approximately 35 attendees with many non-Central Committee attendees and there was ample time to get acquainted with this very interesting candidate. This seems to be a good way to reach out to the larger community as well as to meet and greet candidates.
Please note the PCDCC hopes to provide every candidate for office with the opportunity to participate in a Central Committee meeting either via Zoom or in person when the epidemic is under control but the PCDCC does not endorse any candidate in a contested election before the relevant primary election.
Sharen Hunt expressed interest in contacting the people who appeared on the list of potential Democratic volunteers that was circulated earlier this year. The Committee approved funding for postage and printing of a postcard.
Jamie Johnson said she was interested in learning more about what offices are open for election – about where and when to file for those offices and what the cost is to file.
